They all have their advantages and disadvantages, like anything else in life. I'm running XP because I'm far more familiar with it than any of the other OS's (although I find myself digging into Fedora a *lot* more lately, because of the obvious advantages IT has). Sara, to solve your issue, you might also look at running a PC with an emulator software installed (which is basically what the Parallel thing appears to do for the Mac).
Not being a Mac proponent at all myself, I get to listen to my g/f spout about how wonderful it is. My argument is simply this: there isn't as much available for it compared to M$ stuff, as previously stated above. Now, if a person were comfortable enough with either OSX or some flavor of *nix, that would certainly be the superior choice (IMHO), hands down. That familiarity would come at the cost of doing a *lot* of hand-coding, which isn't my bag.
So, after a long and redundant post, XP is the way to go for me... for now... till I have the confidence in myself (and the competence in *nix) to make it work in the car (err, well truck now).
