Don't like iPod but want iPod like control

Is there any mp3 players that can be hooked up to the HU just like the iPod? I want to be able to control a regular mp3 player from my steering controls. I have an '06 Tacoma. Thanks,
John

CarPC is like an iPod on steroids... without the small balls.

I think a carpc is just a bit more than I really need. I'd like to be able to plug an mp3 player in, just like an iPod. I'm sure that Creative (or some other company) will come up with a Zen or Touch that has adapters that will let them be controlled by car HUs, portable stereos etc. It's just a matter of time. I was hoping that had arrived and I just couldn't find the right mp3 player.

Simple. Get an mp3 player (an iPod, maybe?) and connect it to the aux-in of your stereo.
You're making this far more complicated then it needs to be.

Granted, you're not going to control the unit from your car stereo. That ain't happening. The reason that iPod has so much support s because of the brand recognition.
It's kinda like Windows. There's a lot of software for it, but it's certainly not the best thing out there, and a lot of users can't stand it.

Don't like your options? Create your own.

If you want integration with your factory stereo, the ipod is your only option. I don't know of any other players that are supported.

You can use PDAs ( Dell, HP ) or Palms for music.
We'll have more options very soon

I've got an Ipaq with a couple of gigs of space on it. I will probably get the PA11TOY. It can accept rca jacks from most things and it can control an iPod. I guess this is the best that can be done for now until the rest of the Mp3 player companies figure out what a great selling point this is. Look how easy it is to plug the PA11TOY in and control the iPod. Amazing. It shouldn't be long.

It will be. There's no other MP3 player that has the market share of the iPod, and with everyone churning out new models constantly, there probably never will.

HEHE, it's funny you should mention that... I was walking down the street the other day, and there was an old lady in a wheel chair listening to an iPod while someone was pushing her chair accross the street.... I just looked, and laughed to myself...

So now you really can say, everyone and their momma has one....

Peace,

Rafster

get a new HU, maybe from Sony or Panasonic that have the USB input onthe face. Then u can plug in those flashdrive/mp3 player things and they should work. Check out brand compatability as well. From past experiences with sony electronics, they don't get alond with non sony stuff.

I wouldn't count out the Zune yet. Microsoft knows that the only way the Zune will be accepted as an iPod alternative is if they force feed it to us. That means they'll probably spend a lot of money developing tons of accessories themselves and bring them to market immediately, rather than wait for the aftermarkets to develop them. Also, Microsoft has been developing their automotive platform for several years. They want in this market pretty badly. I don't know if Apple has shown as much interest in this area.
