What car alarm do you use?
Well it's been talked about having a good car alarm system in order to protect your ****...
The question is what do you guys use and how are you satisfied with it?
I am looking at putting 1 in before I even get started on the whole pc installation, recently there been cases of some one scratching a car (on purpose) don't want to get into who, why and how...
Just looking for a 2 way car alarm system with a remote starter...
Any suggestions? Recommendation?
Anyone ever installed 1 into their cars? Hard? duable?
Thanks in advanced!

i've installed cheap ebay ones, and now run a viper system.
they both installed about the same, in fact I'd say the viper was a little easier to install (less wires suprisingly......the other one had some more bells and whistles?...)
anyway, its definatly doable, and I highly recommend the viper systems. If your gonna put that much money into your car DEFINATLY get a 2 way system, especially if you park within rang of your house/work.
Mine does not have remote start, but thats just because I did not want to go that way.
I did not run into any huge problems installing it, the12volt.com and bulldogsecurity.com are great resources for wiring guides for your car.
It was a little difficult finding some of the wires at first, because they were suprisingly very small.
The biggest thing about installing an alarm is obscurity and quality. Make sure those connections are not going to come loose......and hide that brain and those wires as well as you can. Installing it in your door behind your door panel is a good idea. Also a backup battery for the alarm is also a good idea.
I was going to get the compustar, however I've heard they are require some specific equipment to install. (a programmer).

I run a classic the alpine sea-8081 it was one of the first to have a lcd display. this unit was ahead of its time It interfaces with the alpine cda-7949 and scrolls the alarm status on the cd players display I have the ext expansion which allows me up to 14 I believe constant, timed, or latched outputs. an also an audio control interface that lets you control alpine headunits with the alarm remote.

Well, I just use a cheap eBay one and make sure my doors are locked and windows up. If they want in your car, they will get in. When was the last time you went rushing over to the random car with the alarm going off? Usually you just ignore it, as do most other people. So unless you are within range, you will need to get some kind of immobilizer so they can't take your car, but they will probably take your PC.

compustars don't require a special programmer... there are a few advanced features that can utilize a programmer like extended channels & stuff, but for a full remote start security system it is not necisary.
the compustar spread spectrum is awsome range.... blocks & blocks of 2 way communication... now clifford line from dei also has a spread spectrum alarm, never tried that one, but the compustar is really sweet
if you want something much better than the block or block & 1/2 you'll get with fm, the spread spectrum is the way to go...

Don't forget to get a motion sensor with your alarm. That way you can adjust the sensitivity. Also add an air horn to deafen anyone with hearing range if the alarm goes off.

I've got a Compustar 2WSS-AS with a handful of extra sensors/modules.
- 530T window module
- 529T window module (for sunroof)
- 451M micro door lock relay
- 507M tilt-motion sensor
- PKU-CH transponder bypass
None of this is installed yet. That's the project for this weekend.

I'm running a Clifford G5 Concept 450. They have a CliffWizard cable and Windows XP application which also allows you to play with the alarm via the PC... which is especially neat for those of us with carPCs You can set the siren noise, what chirps and what doesn't, etc etc... it's pretty coo.
I'm running the battery backup, digital tilt sensor, shock sensor and glass break sensor. Alarm auto unlocks the doors when the car is turned off, and auto locks them when car is started (these are customizable via the programming options). There are a ton of other addons too (window up, window down, blackbox that detects certain speed and locks door then, a WIRELESS fuel pump immobilizer).

In regards to alarms, what's a good choice for one that rarely falses? I realize this is usually due to hamfisted installation and poor adjustment, but I'm also in the market for an alarm and I want one that isn't going to howl every time it's in an elevated parking garage or a Harley blats by.
thanks!

Practically any alarm that's installed and calibrated so it doesn't go off when something loud and noisy goes by will fit this need.

I am using the Viper 790XV 2-way pager, but the range is pretty wack. I believe the range is better (up to 1/4mi) on the Viper 791XV. The 791XV hands down is rated one of the best alarms for the last couple of years. DEI just released their Viper 5900 SST 2-way which has 1mi range. Regardless of what you get, backup battery is a MUST. Also add 3 or 4 additional Piezo sirens in the cabin and also hook up the horn to the alarm. The one regular siren that comes with all the alarms does not create attention.
