Help Mobo is acting wierd

hey everybody,

so i bought the via epia m10000. I tested it on my home psu and it fires up fine (fan spinning, etc) but there is no display on VGA. Also I dont see any smoke but it smells like burning electrical components. I unplugged everything and went over it w/ a magnifying glass and found no damage or evidence of burning. Not sure what to do.

Clear the BIOS. In the BIOS, you can select VGA out, RCA out, or PCI I think. Clear it to the default VGA. If no go, hook up to a TV and see.

To change it once you get the thing to show up, it is in the BIOS (Del Key).

And I have found that a lot of new products smell like it is sort of... not burning, but really hot because dust and stuff is burning off transistors and out of the heatsink area. Thermal paste and burn-in of CPU.

Be careful, but it can be normal. Monitor temps closely for a day or two though just in case.

well thats comforting to know about the smell. however this is the first time i've hooked it up. Not sure whats wrong just no display. Its a new HD so the spool is quiet i cant tell if its spooling up. however the slimline dvd player isnt responding. Question: there is no power input for the slimline right? it just runs off the ide...?

No IDE does not carry power. usually has a floppy connector on the adaptor.

The JAE-50 on the back of the slimline takes power and data, but once converted to IDE, no data. Seperte.

Did you clear the BIOS? Just because it's new doesn't mean it couldn't have been altered. Also make sure the jumper setting is set to normal and not clear. Some boards ship that way so the CMOS battery doesn't drain while being stocked in a warehouse for a year.
