Digitalww non-motorized screen
Trying to decide on a non-motorized screen for the car. I'm looking at two right now, trying to find why one unit is almost $200 more than the other...
DWW-7VGA: http://www.digitalww.com/DWW-7VGA.htm
DWW-700H: http://www.digitalww.com/DWW-700H.htm
They're both Panasonic LCDs, 400 cd/m², same resolution capability and physical resolution, 2 video and 1 VGA input.
Can someone explain to me why one is $450 and the other one is $290?

The more expensive one regulates voltage internally and has an auto power-on feature. Is that worth $110 to you? I can't answer that one...

It's a little late maybe, but I own a DWW-700H and I love it. I tried two Lilliputs, a Xenarc, and this and of all of them I like the design, overall function, and clarity of the DWW-700H.

Nope, not too late at all. I'm just in the planning stages now so I'd just like to hear some user feedback, that's all - there aren't too many returns when I search.

I am also considering the DWW-700H
Like DP said the more expensive one regulates voltage internally.
But I guess if you power you DWW-700H from the PSU then the voltage will be already regulated..

I've just received my 700H from DigitalWW, i've a couple of things (separate subjects) to say (no dispute!):
- DigitalWW and "Where's Armen" threads. Initially i got VERY worried about that, reading this forum, after i've ordered my hardware (mobo, monitor, psu) i've looked at these "Armen's thread" and i got scared... (read: no contacts / very slow delivery / etc.), but eveything run VERY smooth. Armen replied ALL my emails almost the same day (max delay: the day after), all my hardware arrived before anything else (i ordered the rest of my carpc parts, even here in Italy the same day.. cables.. etc.), i'm still waiting a part from "mazdaparts.com" (that is considered a very reliable shop). Closed Armen topic.. back to the monitor.
- I'm not going to add another review (there's already one), but some consideration: the monitor is better than expected.. solid, beauty, fair quality. You will find really one issue, that is not related to the monitor itself, but they're general carPC problems: there's no autopower function (you'll have a sw/hw hack for lilluput's; and a option for xenarc; not here).
The quality: as i said, it's fair, there are some horizontal noises, you cannot notice them in a normal enviroment, but if you put on the screen a black image and you'll increase the gamma you may notice them.
I'm powering it from my M2, then i've no problem with any voltage regulator.
PS: that M2-ATX is awesome.. powering everything from there, monitor, hd, cd-rom, usb hub, keyboard, wi-fi.. i guess it's cause i'm using a epia that doesn't suck so much from the rail.

Yeah, I think the power regulation aspect is worth the extra $. I'm using a laptop in the back, I'm still wondering how to power it. It's a P4 laptop, it expects to see 19v 3.5A. The Liteon brick is really noisy - I can hear interference from the built-in audio output even at home, I can imagine what it'll be like in the car. But I got a M-Audio Transit USB soundbox anyway.

The original poster asks why is one 450 and the other 290. I can tell you exactly why. The one for 450 is no longer being made and Armen has not killed the link. That was the original price when he first put it up for sale. You will be waiting a long time for it to come back in stock. I know because I bought that particular model from him almost 2 years ago. In fact, I sold it new in the box on the For Sale forum.
I recommend against the non motorized ones (at least if they are like the one I purchased). Althought the screen is top notch. Much better then my curent lilli. The unit’s slide out mechanism leaves a lot to be desired. If you can see it up close you will understand. Every one I saw in the For Sale forum had parts broken off since the slide out mechanism is very unforgiving. That is why I sold mine. I could see it ready to happen the first couple of times I slide the monitor out. After that - I put it back in the box and sold it.

See, that's very interesting... I would be inclined to take the view that the non-motorized units would be MORE durable since they have less mechanical parts! But according to one user, that's not the case.

saverio911 was talking about the DWW-7VGT/7VGA monitors. Those were the first indash VGA monitors available ever. Each one was hand build by me and most are still in use. Some had issues with the housing while others still work. They weren't perfect however there were no other indash monitor available and everybody was very happy with what I did.
Now there are couple not motorized monitors available that are factory build and are completely different. DWW-700H and DWW-750FM (that I sell) are the new monitors available now and they don't have any issues with the housings and work as they should. You should not have any fears with going with either of them and I am sure others can comment on this.
If you have any other questions, email me directly.

I found my 700H (honestly) much more resistant than any other motorized scree, that's a reason why i go for it. Another reason is that i can tilt/rotate it to find the best visualization position.
I had been attracted from those motorized screens, just for the "woooow" to see something pulling out from your dash "magically" ...but i thanks myself the day i decided to for the manual one, cheaper and much more solid!
