just get small rca screens, 2.5" for $49.99 (with rca inputs), no need for controllers, just get a vga-rca box (like $30) and ur set, might be a LITTLE more than a cell screen, but, better graphics, framerate and little bigger size?, more worth it imo :T
I'm sure you could get dead cell phones with working screens for a lot cheaper than that, but you're right about all the rest of it. I'm just getting started with all this, so the idea of many small screens around the car IS new to me. Your way sounds better, because yes, 1-5 fps is not good enough for me for ANY gauge. I want real-time displays if I'm going to have them.

yeah, exactly, im planning (like i said) on having 5-6 screens, all running real time whatever i want
i guess ur right about the dead phones, but i'd rather pay more, and have better graphics/refresh rate personally
then i can run like, cameras to the screens, or, gauges, or clocks, or pictures, or whatever i want (well pictures are static, but whatever), videos..
you can even get touchscreen small rca's, lol
just get a couple of these.. http://contents.fifthunit.com/html/p...h/sku.806.html
and a few of these http://sewelldirect.com/pc-to-tv.asp...FQ4eWAodM3tfTg
and ur ready to go, granted its close to $90 for one extra screen, but then most people if they're going for a lot of screens, have the money to spare (or waste in my case, lol, but its my money, i'll do what i want)

I do have an old (ish) phone with a good screen but a broken antenna, so it's not worth much on its own. I think I'll take it apart and see what it looks like inside.

well, it'll look like a tiny mobo with a screen attached
doubt u'll be able to to anything with it unfortunately, unless you can find the controller for the screen, then make a pc kit for it......

I can appreciate the level of perfection that went into this but I agree that it's completely useless. What would make more sense is to mod a screen onto your keyboard to display game info or such info that you would find necessary. But I think there are such keyboards out already.

rofl
useless? obviously he saw a use, or he wouldnt do it
was there any point to the mona lisa? any point to michaelangelos david?
no, no point, they did it because they thought of it, and enjoyed it
things dont ALWAYS have to have a practical purpose :T, hell, if i was smart enough, everything in my house would have a screen and sensors in it, plant needs water? screen shows a watering can, dogs dish needs water? alarm goes off, dont know when to clean the bathroom? dont worry the door has a countdown calender!
are these needed? obviously not, but i'd like to have them
so what if its useless to you, it wouldnt be useless to me, i'd put a clock on it, my room doesnt have a clock, and playing fullscreen games, where can i see the taskbar clock? on the mouse!

Mona lisa was a work of art, so is Mich's david.
Did you not read carefully or are you one of those quick to flame? I said I can appreciate the work, learn to read carefully.
Ok so in your opinion why would you need a screen on your mouse? And please give me a good reason not just Zomg/rofl. Clock you say? hard to read clocks when your hand is covering it. Anyway I'll let you go since you seem to want to do this exact thing and got slightly offended when someone posted a response.

baha, dude back off, u completely misunderstand everything, so dont go judge me before you even know anything, besides, you said it was useless, that was the only part i was going after, its not useless to him, to me, or to probably countless others, i was merely saying that it has a point, just like anything else anyone ever does, he had an idea and made something, mona lisa, david, tower of piza, colloseum, they were all ideas that some people probably said were useless, made anyone and look/work great, thats ALL i was saying, if i offended you im sorry
but uses? the clock, because i actually take my hand off of the mouse, OMG is that so hard to understand? maybe i want it to display if i get an IM while im playing a fullscreen game? maybe i want it to tell me if my laptop battery is dying? maybe i want it to have a countdown timer for when i have to go to work? hell, maybe i just want it to display the date (i always forget what day it is), theres a million uses that it could be used for, so in my opinion it is NOT useless, just because you dont have a use for it, doesnt mean its not useful to someone
and just because its a mouse, does not mean that i never take my hand off the mouse, or are you one of those people who only ever types with one hand? give me a break, mice arent bonded to your hand, you can let it go
