and still makes no sense... your hand would cover the screen... there's a point when modding crosses that fine line beyond genius and into stupidity... and yeah...

i had an idea.., what about people tho actually take their hand off of the mouse..
its crazy i know
but i when they type, they could use both hands, or, even when using instant messengers, they could like, see the mouse pretty well
its all hypothetical mind you

That brings up an interesting idea though... I wonder how you could use cell phone LCD displays in the car? Such as installing multiple digital gauge readouts that could be set to display whatever information you felt like at the time...

Well in our hypothetical mindset, and maybe just mine... but how often are our mice in a position where it would prove easy and convenient to actually look at the mouse in such a manner. I'm sorry, but of the 3000+ plus customers my team supports daily, the individuals who actually have their mice positioned as such are very few and far in-between. Now granted these are MOST likely not to be the ones modding their mice, but no techy individual I know would. To take this one step further, if I am typing, IMing or what have you... I'm looking at the monitors, what's going on the screens directly in front of me, not at the keyboard, not at the mouse... mice are more extensions of the hand, not a visual aid, nor in a real position to be so, kinda defeats that whole ergonomic bit too...though... that might just be crazy thinking

hmm that gives me a cool idea. use some cell phone displays to display your gauge readings in your car.

I was thinking of extra gauges... a pillar pod or dash mount pod or something, same as they have always been used except you could change what was displayed on each one based on what you needed at the time.
I'm not sure how that would work in reality though, what's the refresh rate on those things? And the graphics are probably ugly enough, unless you tear apart a razr or something like that, that it would be more annoying than anything.

the graphics wouldnt really matter unless your trying to put a detailed image in there. all youd really need to display are numbers. actually any camera phones lcd would work. refresh rates are good as well

I was imagining an analog dial display rather than a digital number readout. I'll have to play with that and see what I can come up with. I think I've got an old phone somewhere I could take apart.

if you read the article, the pc-cell screens refresh about once per second
as to the cellphones having good refresh rates, thats 'cause its the phones mobo thats controlling it, not a pc thats doing other crap, and that isnt made to control a cell screen
besides, you'd have to find a controller for these new phones, which i dont think they make yet, if they do, prove me wrong 'cause i want one too, lol
i dont think they are very viable for most guage scenarios, due to the low refresh rate, well, its too slow for me, maybe viable for others i suppose
but why are you guys thinking this is an original idea, you can get small rca screens that are just as cheap, but with higher resolution as well as higher framerates

personally, im planning on having about 5-6 small rca screens around the car for different things, its not original at all, lol
cell screens maybe small, but stupidly slow refresh rates kinda hinder everything
mind you, cell screens are smaller than rca's, but i want my 30fps

analog would be worse than digital if you ask me..
with anywhere from 1-5 fps, you'd have a jumping needle all the time, it would be no where near smooth, unless you made hte program smooth it out
just get small rca screens, 2.5" for $49.99 (with rca inputs), no need for controllers, just get a vga-rca box (like $30) and ur set, might be a LITTLE more than a cell screen, but, better graphics, framerate and little bigger size?, more worth it imo :T
