control climate control via PC?
simple question, not so simple answer.
has anyone done this?
I see two options...
hack up the existing climate control, and use the pc to "press" the buttons via relays, etc, or replace the climate control completely, so the PC replaces it.
now, I think the first option would be easier, BUT, are there any PC interfaces (preferably USB) that will control, ah, 17 relays?
I am putting a large LCD screen (well, 8inch) inplace of the original headunit, and climate control, I can remove the LCD from the climate control, so its still viewable, and have the PC press the buttons.
what do ya think?

It's simple if you have older simpler HVAC Controls
It's much harder with modern day LCD/LED electronic screens

Dear Noobie,
Try clicking on the link in Mastero's sig. Since you aren't keen to searching here it is:
http://www.roshanindustries.com/mp3pumphouse/MP-3.HTM
Better yet, here's the direct link to where you can buy it:
http://www.roshanindustries.com/mp3pumphouse/Aircon.htm
Is there anything else we can do for you?
I'm sure someone will be along soon to post up some FAQ links, and How to Search links, but I'm not an a-hole like that

initially your gripe was that he hadn't built anything in over a year (when infact he had) and now your complaining that it doesn't fit your needs? who cares? it does work for alot of people, even though some have to do alot of customization for their particular setup. that's what this hobby is all about. not everything is going to work for everyone. why complain about it??

I do believe you asked if there was a device that would allow you to control HVAC systems with a PC, if it were possible and/or if this had already been done. The simple answer is yes and you were given a link to the device that did so. Just because you dont think it will work for your setup is no reason to gripe about the repsonses you were given.

As far as devices that can control multiple relays, there are also numerous relay control boards posted all over this site. As suggested, searching would lead you to them. But then again, those may not suit your needs perfectly... but it's a start in the right direction... this hobby is about customization in some form...
