use alarm aux to turn on inverter?
ok, here is the deal. My carPC is powered with an inverter and the BIOS is set to power up when the inverter is turned on. So...I have a spare auxillary output on my alarm (negative trigger) and i have been trying to think of a way to use that to turn my inverter on remotely. This way i don't have to wait for the PC to boot up after i'm in the car. The PC survives crank, so that is not an issue. Is there anything to this scheme that isn't going to work? if there isn't, then has it been done/how difficult?

The aux output is probably a momentary output, so you'll need to to convert it to a latched output...if you use the search function on here you can find diagrams to to do it with relays.
You could then either use the relay and wire it up to the switch on the invertor if it's connected to a constant power source...or you could use it to trigger a power source for the invertor...I don't know exactly how your invertor is hooked up, but one of these should work.

I use the 4 relay pack for my truck. I control turn on w/ a channel, and turn off the pc w/ ground when armed wire (probably orange).

Some alarms, like the Viper 79x series, have a programmable output where you can have it set to 'latched until ignition', or simply 'latched', where you wouldn't need the relay packs.
Otherwise, the link to the 12volt is the way to go!

yeah, i was looking at my alarm documentation (Accele AS805) and it has all the nifty features i can use like latched aux. there are alot of features with this alarm that i want to get working. had a shop install it and they did a crappy job and only the basics, but soon i'll actually have a place to work on my car! (no more apt, hello garage) but i'm planning on getting the inverter hooked up to the aux this weekend. shouldn't be too bad now that i only need 1 relay instead of 4.

I can do you all one better (I HOPE) Well, better, cause it only take a single relay.
Most alarms have a negative signal that goes low when the alarm is activated. Usually, they use this signal for the ignition cut.
You can use that negative to activate a single additional relay. When the alarm is active, the wire goes ground, and energizes the relay, interupting power to the inverter. As soon as you disarm the alarm, the inverter will get power, and start your carputer.
