I know MooN personally. I know that the site hasn't changed much in over two years and I think we all would like to see something happen. I'll talk to him when I see him Monday and see what's up.

I know there have been treads in the past of suggestions, maybe if someone wants to compile a list of the top 5-10 ideas for change. That way when I talk to him I can have a short list of major points.

I'll see what I can do, but it's ultimately his site.

He wouldn't have to give it up, only let a few people who frequent the board often to add articles, or maintain the examples page. It's a lot of work for just one person, so allowing many to work on it will definately benefit the site. Obviously, there are a lot of talented people ready to help out any way they can.

I apprechiate what your saying, but might it be worth waiting a while, give Moon a few weeks to respond?

Everyone

As regards up dating the site, I'd be more than happy to help, not sure what I can add, html, javascriptting, content. Also when did Charles ceace to me a moderator?

well, assuming that moon gave the go-ahead, I guess we would need to assign someone to mediate the whole process, then hand out tasks as required.

I really dont know howto sucessfully make this happen tho.... and sadly I doubt it would work..... its hard enuff to get things done on your own, but in a team... sheesh!

..... i guess the first steps would be to decided on a scripting lang (I would vote PHP or ASP) and database (mySQL would be prefered) but that depends on what the current mp3car.com server supports....

and then what pages do we need? Home/News/Members Setups (this need MAJOR revamp!)/Tutorials/Links/Forum.... develop a design that the majority like.... I guess give whoever want to develop a look/feel then have a poll thru vBullitien for a few weeks to determine the winner?

then possibly assign sections to users.... say I might do the news system, next person does the links section (links could be full on too - with categories/sorting/etc - bigger than it seems) next person does the members rides (this better be good!!), person X does the tutes seciton, etc, etc ..... but keep all sections within the style that was prefered...... you get the idea...

and obviously ppl with the scripting/DB ability would do the page building tasks, others can do artwork, further others can do writeups for tutes in Microsoft Word to be ported to the DB, etc.... it COULD just work! upload all dev work to a subdirectory on mp3car.com..... ppl can check on the progress, when all is happy do the cutover to the next size... and remove the old!!

I would suggest going easier to begin with..... dont bite off more than we can chew eh?

phew.... sounds like a BIG task!

Well I am all ready to get started, I just need to register mp3cars.org and seutp phpnuke and get it going. I'm wondering if we would have enough people go to the forums there to make the whole thing worth doing, or link to mp3car.com's forums (but the whole point to get away from mp3car.com because of the lack of updates)...so whats the consensus?

I think that the forums are more important than anything else because you get the most feedback, information, and ideas from the forums. But I'm not saying its the only important thing...everything is important, but I think if we can't convince most of the people to use something like mp3cars.org forums then even wanting to do this whole move is moot.

Thumbs down

I am not in agreement with the mp3cars.org idea. It would be too confusing to have a sister site spin off, and possibly degrade our much beloved MP3car.com. Any work that needs to be done should take place on the MP3car.com server and domain. Eventually Moon will be contacted, and what he thinks about this will determine what domain/server it will be on. If he likes it I am sure he will be the final design judge, and if he doesn't then I feel this information needs to be around, so mp3cars.org comes into play. Give Moon some time, start brainstorming....

BTW MP3car.com can use PHP or ASP. My vote is for ASP!

It would be crazy to use a MS-based server.
I vote for anything besides Internet Information Server (the MS server).

PHP and ASP are similar, yet, PHP's security record is much better than ASP's.

Heresy! Burn him at the stake!

I can't agree with that decision, but I agree with the rest of your post. Let's hold off on the sister website until we hear something. Even if we decided to do that, I think it'd be best to come up with a whole new name, instead of using the MP3Car name. It would just be too confusing for people who didn't know what's going on.

ZipLock said he'd talk to Moon, so let's wait and see what he says.

If I run it, the server will be running Linux, use apache, mysql, and PHP.
