I believe DVD Decrypter can do this for you. Set the output to ISO by going to Mode>ISO>Read. I haven't done this before, and currently cannot test it (I'm at work). Most DVD players (Nero Showtime does) can play DVDs from ISOs. Nero Showtime can also play from VOB files - you just point it to the folder where everything is contained.

u kno, media player classic can play full dvds, that you DONT have to rip..
most players can, you just have to open the right file (forget which one it is..)
but anyway, TECHNICALLY you're wrong, if you rip it, you've just made a copy

and dvd decryptor can make iso's, mind you they'll be 8gb, dunno if you want an 8gb file, wouldnt really be helpful on a 7-15" screen..
if you own this DVD, and dont plan on giving out rips.., get a program called DVDShrink, it'll take that dvd, and shrink it to whatever size you want, and it gives the option to output into an iso..
personally, i'd suggest DVDShrink and Media Player Classic, media player classic is small, doesnt use much resources, and can play the whole dvd from one of the files on that dvd, (meaning you dont need to click the next .VOB, it'll switch on its own)
if ur looking into making an avi instead, then im too lazy to figure that out, as i've never done it

i am going to tell you 2 thing
1. get clone DVD.. copies entire dvds, creates ISOs, etc. you can even degrade the quality so you would have a smaller file size
2. get anyDvd.. (disables copy protection, illegal in SOME countries)
and if you want to watch the file on you mobile phone....then use cloneDVD mobile !!!

If you want these files in AVI format, you'll need to use an encoding app. Gordian Knot is a mashup that does all the background work for you, http://www.doom9.org.

what I do for my htpc setup is copy all the dvd's to individual folders then have them encoded when im away from the pc. It will also help if you setup a dedicated pc to just rip/encode depending on how many you have to do.

DVD Fabdecrypter
DVD 2 One
The fastest way to process and entire DVD copy is to have the resulting files stored in another hard drive. The fastest I can process a single movie is under 3min. On average, it is about 5min.

I found a nice program that does DVD > MP4 (h264) conversions, but the video seemed kinda iffy last time, I'll have to play with it some more. I figure I can just convert to iPod type of specs for the video (320x240) and it will look good enough for my 7" TS.

Process by means of stripping the DVD menu, useless features, and further compress the files to fit the movie within a specified size (e.g., 4.3GB). In other words, "shrink."
Once that is complete, I like to run PocketDivXEncoder to further compress the movie. It is normally used for PDAs, but it's been awhile since I've used the software so I don't remember if it can support 640x480. You can probably average < 650MB per movie if you like. For example, if your movie folder contains these VOB and TS files, select all of the required files and it'll concatenate the files into a single AVI (DivX) file.
