Well i took the plunge and installed it today. I had a heck of a time getting all the cables for it since mp3car does not sell the cables.
however heres what i did.
Cabes:
1. Antenna: SMB adapter - I had an old broken XM antenna that i chopped the end off and spliced it to my stock antenna cable. XM or Sirius antenna cables are SMB to let you know.
2. USB: I went on ebay and got a usb-a to usb-a cable. for 4.99
3. Power: Car 12v and pulled 5v from my usb power source. Using a chopped molex cable form and old computer.
4. Audio: I am using a hacked cable from a cd rom drive to 3.5mm jack.
I hooked it all up and it sounds great. Overall reception in fantastic on both the AM and FM. the RDS is a bit shakey but it work 80% of the time. I drove around town and on the parkway and it was able to maintain a good Stereo signal that sounded great. Far suprasses the Radioshark and any other amfm tuner out there for the PC.
Reception FM: A+
Reception AM: A+
So is it a direct replacement for a headunit? Not yet but its soo close.
The reception is awesome, and the sound is great however control wise there are still a few bugs i am wokring out. It tends to freeze with roadrunner if you tune it too quickly but im sure in time ill figure it out.
