Cannot read mp3 CDs

Hi guys,

I have an H&B CA5555 car unit which until last week was running like a dream. It's a good unit, with SD, USB, CD and MP3CD capabilities, but suddenly I get an awful lot of "ERROR:04" messages.

The unit only spins the CD up about 1 in 5 times, but I've opened up the unit and each time I try to access a disc, I can see the lens moves up and down three times before I get the "ERROR:04" message.

I've tried to clean the lens with a cleaner CD, and with a cotton-bud directly on the lens with cleaning solution. What would be your opinion on this? I've only had the unit 18 months and it seems like it may be broken already!

A repair shop would charge me 80% of the purchase price just to look at it, so I'm trying to think of alternatives.

Thanks to anyone who can volunteer any suggestions.

you might want to check a dedicated car audio forum.

This site is dedicated to putting PCs in cars.

You're more likely to find help quicker on a dedicated car audio site.

Good luck.

If the disc isn't spinning, sounds like the motor is dead. But yeah, we don't know much about car audio specifically

The motor spins up about once in every five goes, and it works for a bit, but starts to struggle to read the ID tags after a little while, if thats any help.

Thanks for replying guys.

I noticed a few threads about this player in the search, must have got the wrong end of the stick. Good luck with your car PCs!
