Anything I am missing here?
I posted in Newbie, but maybe its for here? I want to get started on this and looking for comments.
My follow up reply to my first question is:
ok how does this look?
M2-ATX 160W Intelligent DC-DC PSU
VoomPC case
VIA EPIA SP13000 Mini-ITX Motherboard
BU-353 Weather-proof GPS receiver
40GB SATA 5400rpm Laptop HardDrive
Lilliput 7 inch screen
External DVD USB drive
I can get all the above (except the dvd drive, which i will do later) for about $700.00 with shipping.
I have the memory for the motherboard already. What else am I missing?
I assume I will need an extension vga cable for the LCD to the PC, right?
What additional wiring is needed?
The mobo is sata, and the harddrive is sata, so i wont need an IDE > laptop connector.
So again, anything I am missing? I'm just trying to budget this puppy out so I can get it all odered up and not realize anything i missed or any hidden expenses.
My original post was:
So today, <smack>, I decided i want to do a carpc project. I work in the IT field so Im not to concerned about building, testing and installing it.
I have a 1996 3000GT VR4 that I want to do this to. I want to accelerate my research by having you fine folk give recommendations.
I definetely want a VoomPC case, no question. I like it, and I have plenty of places i can mount it.
Here is what I want out of my carpc:
* A frontend, no doubt roadrunner or something
* MP3's, I figure like a 40-60GB drive will be plenty to start out with
* GPS (I'll use Mappoint or something, but what device is good enough). And GPS receivers like the sirius antenna? you know the magnet one.
* WiFi 802.11b/g, I assume either a mobo with it built on, or using a pcmcia
* I dont care about radio, but if I can get it in the carpc that would be cool
* I need the power supply and stuff to allow me to start the car and shut it down without the pc going nutty
* Maybe watch the occasional DVD or something.
Can anyone work with me on the side (in PM) with all the gear I need to buy, links to it...etc?
I'll also be buying some AMPS and speakers and subs to replace all the stock stuff in the VR4. I think AMP, speakers and subs will be a preferance deal.
Oh yea, I'd like the motherboard to support 5.1 if possible. This way from the carpc i can control the settings for each speaker.
I know there is a lot of options and research needed, but like I said, Im looking for someone to work with me by saying Here is what you want based on your needs, here is where you can get it (new and/or used) and here is basically how you wire the stuff up....(like what goes to battery and stuff).
I'll be using a liliiput 7inch lcd.
