Actually, you couldn't. It's true that ERM shell of the DeLorean is a good insulator, but I can think of several points where the panels are grounded to the frame and thus the rest of the car. Realistically, it is VERY difficult to break into a DeLorean because of the locking mechanism used. Remember that both doors have TWO electrically operated latches, that rarely work properly anyway. And because of the small toll-both window and mechanism to move it up and down, there is very little space inside the door accessable from the outside. This makes it very unlikely that the thief would be able to undo both latches. Of course, they could just break the window....
Electrifying any car is very difficult simply because the tires are a good ground, especially when wet. I would prefer to electrify the drivers seat with simple copper wire woven into the seat bottom. Concentrate on the crotch area, and make sure the steering wheel leads to a good ground.
According to my father (police officer of about 35 years) in Canada you can use any reasonable force to stop a thief. So, you could hit him with a baseball bat to stop him, but once he is down you cannot go any further. Beating him over the head for 10 minutes would then be considered "unreasonable". Shooting him is sort of a grey area since the gun laws here are different. Assuming that the gun is properly licensed, you have all the permits and it can be proven that it is properly stored, AND your life was in immediate danger, you could shoot a thief. If you killed him/her, you will probably be in trouble since killing them is "unreasonable force". However, a shot in the knee-cap or leg would probably be OK. Personally, if I was in danger because of a thief, I would be shooting at body mass, though if I did kill him, I'd have a hard time arguing in court that it was an accident since I have shot sport rifle for 10 years and am an excellant shot. (Anyone need a sniper for hire?).
The real problem is that boobie traps are illegal, wich just really sucks. It's my house, so if I want to electrify the doorknobs I should be able to do so. Sigh.
Really, we might not even need to try to harm the person. A small Tesla Coil running in the back seat with "Warning: High Voltage Security System" would probably do the job quite nicely.

Some good friends ok but not to everyone you meet.
For me only my best friends & family know what I 'm working on. Most of my CO-Students( don't know if it's called so)which I#m in good contact with don't know about my carputer stuff.
It really sucks that things have to be like this, tell some people and not others, etc. What I worry about now is this friend tells that friend tells that friend.. Next thing you know I have some random guy calling me saying "hey, you don't know me but I'm working on somehting similar and I'd love to see your setup!"
Also since I have information posted on a website about my car I'm affraid of people recognizing my car. Fortunately black maxima is a fairly common car... As long as I don't do any exterior styling, you really shouldn't be able to tell unless you look into my car.
I was originally going to completely redo the dash so I could make a totally custom interface. Now I think I'm going to do my best to disguise everything. Everyone has bugged out seeing my Ashtray power buttons and LCD "DUDE THAT IS SO TRICK!" even my friends who at first thought I was insane for even thinking about all this.
I'm working on a force field generator.. but I can't get the power draw down enough to be powered by my battery.. I'm looking into a small nuclear reactor to be trunk mounted... Anyone know a good sight for this?
Cheers

What's scary is I remember reading articles about how great it'd be if cars where powered by tiny nuclear reactors. Seeing as how most people [read: women] don't understand the concept of an oil light, what happens when they forget to refil their cooling tank with water to keep their U-235 pellets from melting and irradiating everything with in a mile radius? I give that idea two thumbs down while making farting noises.

Hey all,
Thanks for all your ideas, comments and concerns. This is VERY frustrating and I even drove to the police station and chatted with them for 1/2 hour about the problem that seems to be in my area. I live in a fairly nice neighborhood, not rich or anything, but not the slums either.
First of all, to let you know, I live in Burnaby British Columbia which is just outside Vancouver, well it actually neighbours Vancouver. For those of you that don't know Vancouver, or even Canada for that matter, we don't have a very big crime problem up here(Compared to other major metropolitan areas in North America), other than dope, but our police don't consider that a problem, it is only a misdimeaner, not a felony. (You basically get it taken away from you and that's it).
The police actually told me that right now our auto crime is higher than auto crime in L.A., New York OR Miami.......WOW!! I thought, considering we have a population of only 2 million, that is a pretty serious problem!!
So anyways, the vehicle is in the shop getting all the body and interior damage fixed, but our insurance company (we don't really have private insurance here, it is government owned to reduce our costs) hasn't told me what they will be covering and not covering as of yet. I will probably find out in the next day or two. I will keep the forums informed.
I can't comment yet as to how I will replace my system or what kind of security I will put in my vehicle as of yet either until I find out what the insurance company is going to cover.
Thanks again all!

Hey all, I am back with a bit of an update...
Well, my vehicle is STILL in the shop, it's been a week now that it has been in the shop and almost 2 weeks since it was broken into. I told you they did a number on it!!!
I also heard back from my insurance company and they told me the computer is not covered because it wasn't permanently mounted (I already knew that, so I wasn't too upset), they are also not going to cover any of the wiring or IR components because they were "zap strapped" and they don't cover anything that is "zap strapped", so I got a little mad at that, asked them a few questions, but in the end it isn't worth all that much so I decided to forget about them.
Now the last thing was my LCD, when I bought it thru PayPal I never did print out the receipt, so I didn't have a receipt to give the insurance company and they told me that without a receipt I will get nothing. So I e-mailed the company that I bought the LCD from and they were gracious enough to send me a receipt for my LCD, however, I don't have a receipt for the housing that I bought off e-bay, and I have no way of even remembering who I bought it from let alone have a receipt for it.
So this is a request for a favor from the mp3car community....
Would somebody with some sort of business be willing to write me a receipt for the LCD housing that was stolen? The value was US$150, the creditcard receipt just has the CC transaction company on it, so you can use your business address on the receipt, and it should be OK. The only thing I could even imagine them attemping would be to phone you, but I hardly doubt that.
If someone is willing to help me out, that would be great, it can be just a simple e-mail to me with the purchase price etc..etc.. If you are willing to help me, e-mail or PM me for my name and address for the receipt and I would be VERY greatful.
Thanks again all!

Should be able to call the CC billing company and they should be able to trace it back. I got a bill from someplace called ibill once. so I called the back, they gave me ibills 800# and I called them and asked who they billed for. Turned out it was internet porn sites so I want back to the bank and fought the charges and got them refunded, but my point is they should track that stuff.

I tried going back thru PayPal, but they only have the last 30 days of action on an account, then it goes deep into the vaults.
