Hey all, I am back with a bit of an update...
Well, my vehicle is STILL in the shop, it's been a week now that it has been in the shop and almost 2 weeks since it was broken into. I told you they did a number on it!!!
I also heard back from my insurance company and they told me the computer is not covered because it wasn't permanently mounted (I already knew that, so I wasn't too upset), they are also not going to cover any of the wiring or IR components because they were "zap strapped" and they don't cover anything that is "zap strapped", so I got a little mad at that, asked them a few questions, but in the end it isn't worth all that much so I decided to forget about them.
Now the last thing was my LCD, when I bought it thru PayPal I never did print out the receipt, so I didn't have a receipt to give the insurance company and they told me that without a receipt I will get nothing. So I e-mailed the company that I bought the LCD from and they were gracious enough to send me a receipt for my LCD, however, I don't have a receipt for the housing that I bought off e-bay, and I have no way of even remembering who I bought it from let alone have a receipt for it.
So this is a request for a favor from the mp3car community....
Would somebody with some sort of business be willing to write me a receipt for the LCD housing that was stolen? The value was US$150, the creditcard receipt just has the CC transaction company on it, so you can use your business address on the receipt, and it should be OK. The only thing I could even imagine them attemping would be to phone you, but I hardly doubt that.
If someone is willing to help me out, that would be great, it can be just a simple e-mail to me with the purchase price etc..etc.. If you are willing to help me, e-mail or PM me for my name and address for the receipt and I would be VERY greatful.
Thanks again all!
So atleast a little good can come out of this for greater mp3car knowledge in terms of auto insurance, what qualifies as "permanently mounted"? Considering im sure they qualify head units as "permanently mounted", what would it take for the pc to have that designation? And what exactly is"zap strapped"?

I remember asking my Allstate agent that once, anything has to be bolted in, can't be held in by velcro, bungie cords, duct tape or a slide out mount. Remember those mounts when cb radios were popular, you bolted the cb to this metal plate and it slid into another that was bolted to the car. Those would be considered not perm mounted either. I have never heard of zap strapped wither. Are you talking aboutplastic zip ties?

Nobody here willing to write me a receipt for my overhead console that housed my 5.6 inch LCD? I bought it off e-bay and can't seem to trace it back, but I need a receipt for insurance. I'm in Canada so I doubt they would try to trace it around.

From what I take, anything in the vehicle that is OEM will be 100% covered. Anything else basically has to be bolted or screwed into the metal or inside area of the vehicle. If it isn't then you are SOL.
"Zap Straps" are those little plastic things people use to tie up wiring and stuff with. Also the Police now use it in some areas instead of handcuffs because it is nearly impossible to get thru them without some sort of cutting tool because they can be put on so tightly. Now why in the world the Police can use them for criminals, but the insurance company won't allow it to tie down some wires is beyond me, especially when even the auto makers sometimes use them!!

Ahhh, zip ties I'm addicted to those things, I have a few thousand piece containers, and constantly zip tie the hell out of everything.

Insurance Fraud...
Because thats fraud. All you should need is an estimate/quote. If you can find a dealer of the housing or a custom maker, just have them write up an estimate of it. I assume you have a picture of it in your car? If so, send in an estimate of it in along with the picture.
When I smashed into a truck, I sent in a picture of my old brush guard and got an estimate of a new one installed from a local off-road shop.
Thus, you probably just need an estimate for the housing and not a receipt for it. Local car stereo shops that do custom work will probably be able to write you one.

Yes I can't write one cause that would be fraud, plus just in case they want to trace it somehow....it can be traced with an e-mail or phone number to a legitimate company.
Unfortunatly I did not have a picture of it installed in my vehicle because I had just finished the install not too long ago, before that it was just mounted on my dash.
Even so, the insurance company wants an actual receipt from a legitimate company, not proof that I had it. But if I can't get a receipt for it then I will see what I can do in regards to an estimate for one etc...etc...
