Well.......it has finally happened.

Just got broken into AGAIN. This is the 2nd time in 2 months, and THIS time they got all my equipment. They even got all the wiring and everything.

Looks like they broke into the back hatch of my Pathfinder, climbed over all the seats and popped the hood, at which point they dented the hood while ripping off my battery cables (breaking them in the process) to shut off my alarm.

This left them with a lot of time to work with and did they ever work....everything was taken, lcd, computer, all wiring, consoles, even my change drawer was ripped out because they were going thru the fuse panel to see what was hooked up to it (nothing thank god), then they pulled up the carpets and grabbed all the wiring from the front to the back, etc..etc..

The only thing they didn't seem to find was the power inverter and it was the easiest to find.......basically right out in the open. All my other stuff was hidden away from site and locked up, they broke or pulled apart all the areas where my carputer stuff was.

Even some areas of my interior were damaged.....some plastic trim, some seat damage etc..etc...a long with the big dent in my hood and the TOTALLY ripped apart lock on my hatch that also has received a LOT of scratches on.

This leads me to believe that it was someone in the apartment building where I live......this is the 5th break-in I have had here....I AM NOT PLEASED!!!! All break-ins up to this point there pretty much has been NOTHING stolen, including CDs (even this time I had 10 cds in my vehicle and none were stolen), but this time I guess they finally found what they had been looking for all along (not that there was any sign of this stuff in there, other than them watching me pull my screen in and out).

I have gotten so ****ed at the cops, that this time I am DEMANDING they do a fingerprint analysis on my vehicle and I will be finding out tomorrow if they will in fact do one....all I can say is if they don't then I'm not sure what in the hell my taxes are going too and will possibly go to the media. I mean really what is the point of all this...... I will get an insurance claim, go replace all my stuff, to what???? have it all stolen in another month of 2???

I guess the next thing I will have to do is look into a pager alarm, so I will know when they are breaking in, cause this time I found out that my manager actually heard the alarm going off at 4AM for like 1/2 hour and decided not to do anything about it. At least if I was paged I could call the cops or go down there and scare them off or something.

Anyways, that is my rant, I needed to get this all off my chest cause like I said above, I AM ****ED. Thanks all, and if anyone has any tips on how to stop this that would be great. Just keep in mind.... I do live in a nice area, in a nicely upkept apartment building....this is not the slums by any means. And I did have alarms and everything was locked inside and 100% out of sight.

Peace.

You know, SuperCircuits has great deals on little cameras.

When I was in high school, somebody kept egging my house. We thought it was someone that my sister had ****ed off, because we were the only ones this was happening to. So I set up a camera in my window pointed towards the street and recorded from 12:30am to 6:30am every night.

One morning, there was a dead possum in the back of my truck. I ran inside and checked the tape, and it was someone that I had ****ed off. I never thought that someone would be that stupid, because I had a reputation in high school for being a little, um, psychopathic.

Anyway, after I, er, confronted, the people in question we never had any problems again.

and then they moved to illinois .

But, back to the point -> get a camera if you think it's someone in your complex. You can do like me and get a small one that no one will ever see, or you can get a big security camera that may serve as a deterrent (but you will never catch who has been breaking into your ride or get to use your powers of persuasion to get your stuff back--the tapes are only good legally for the incident they record, nothing prior).

That's exactly what I was going to say. You can't park your car close enough so that you can hear your alarm? If not, I suggest getting a louder alarm and one that will call you and say, "Grab a bat and run to your car!"

Sorry orangewhip, I'd hate to be in your position. Keep an eye out and ask the neighbors whose windows face your car if they saw anything. Remind them that their cars can be broken into just as easily as yours was. Do your apartments have garages? If so, pay the extra $50/month to keep your car safe. Your idea of getting an alarm that will page you is the best idea, imo.

Man that has got to suck, i'd be wanting to rip there throats out! It has to be someone who lives near you, if they took everything, and it wasn't visible from the outside.

I agree with the pager alarm, my next alarm will have one thats for sure! So if my alarm goes off, i can grab the nearest hard object and make my way towards my car.

Theives are one of the lowest scum on this earth!

ps. does your insurace cover your system?

Damn, that really sucks. Heh, its reading things like this that makes me parinoid. Will your insurance cover everything? Including the "time and labour"? And yeah, if they took the time to strip out all the wiring and bits and pieces of your carpc setup, they would have had to seen you working on it, so Id wager someone in the area.

I've had those ideas. One was where I'd have a M4A1 pointed out every window, and if the car alarm goes off, everyone in a two mile radius better duck.

Hmmm, sounds better and better everytime.

Don't electrify the whole car, just the door handles and key holes. Also, don't make it so easy for them to disconnect your battery and turn off you alarm. Hide a 12volt back-up Gell-cell under a seat or in your tire-jack compartment. And get glass breakage sensors.

Also, make everyone in your area think you are a psychopath, and that you would kill them if you caught them. My suggestions, either go buy a legal assault rifle, if you can in your area, such as a semi-auto AK or AR-15, or get an airsoft replica. Airsoft ones look exactly the same, and shoot 6mm BBs.

Also, do get a real gun. Go get a large caliber Revolver or a shot-gun. Not to shoot the scum with, that would be to messy. But nothing makes a thief wet his pants like a warning shot into the air. Get two guns, you can get a shotgun for 50$ at a flea market, then leave one in the car, and one at home. Leave it in the car in a prominant spot. Get a gun rack for your back window ;-) The thiefs have to be scoping you out before they rob you, so if they know you have a gun, they are going to be alot less likely to rob your car.

Sorry to make this sound like an NRA meeting, but I hate having my stuff stolen too.

Also, I forgot to add, get one hell of a siren. I have a Piezo siren from Parts-Express, its the size of 1/2 a can of pop, and puts out around 120db at 5 feet. It is not fun to play with. You don't hear the siren, you feel it inside your head. Put that on your back-up battery, and hide it, perhaps make a custom dome-light with it inside. Its so loud, you can't pin-point where it is coming from, so the scum shouldn't be able to break it before everyone in the neighborhood wakes up with nasty headaches from the noise.

I was thinking of making a voice activated control system for my car using hamradio and pgpPhone... I never really got further than saying "wow wouldn't that be neat"

But you could put a second window motor in... with 3/16" stainless steal plates. "Shields" window armor comes up, doors lock, alarm activates.

You may enjoy the idea of charging the "windows' as well... or making reactive armor (when you try to smash it it actually explodes.. tanks use this to prevent armour piercing rounds from piercing their armour) Wouldn't that bloke be surprised when his arm disappears!!

I am extremely sorry to hear about this. Knowing ICBC you get reimbursed for materials used (with receipts) but not for your own time. This sucks because you get penalized for not paying the $40/hr to have everything installed.

I hope you have backups of everything. I would hate to lose all my work to make an interface just to have someone steal it all. Including all the MP3 files.

A reliable alarm is very important. I have mine hidden in body panels that are extremely hard to access. Do not stick under the dash. Backup battery siren or batteries are a must. Pager is good if not within earshot. Unique siren so that you can tell when it's your vehicle. Disable shock sensors unless you enjoy false alarms. Get glass break sensor instead because then they only have 2 options of getting in and your protected for both. A shock sensor will go off if someone bumps your car and guess what, it's too late to stop them and doesn't mean they are breaking in but if the window is broken or door opened you can be sure they are breaking in.

It's sad that we need reminders like this before we take the appropriate steps to protecting our hard work. Hopefully everyone who reads this will take steps to protect their property and stop giving thieves a reason to continue their scummy ways.

I got to go now and beef up security.

Sorry to hear about your loss...Its like a death in the family here. Good luck with your insurance company...since you've dealt with them before, Im sure you know the routine. Anyways, I was just wondering how they broke in...break the back window or pop the lock? I plexi glassed my back 3 windows...Im debating on the rest. Granted if Im in an accident and the truck goes in the watter, I cant break on to get out...but atleast you cant break in Im thinking about moving to fully electronic door locks. Nothing a slim jim will open. I think thats all you can do to prevent someone from breaking in.
