southtarnation,

Since we have come this far I might as well put in my 2c.

I use a regular Motorola E815 phone with my everyday 39.99 Verizon plan. The phone is EVDO capable and connects to my PC using a bluetooth dongle.

You can setup your PC to do Dialup networking through the phone (instructions are availlable on this forum) and voila broadband internet access at 80mph. No extra charge - it just uses your regular minutes. So its free after 9pm and on the weekends and I get 450 anytime.

no flux capacitor/Mr.Fusion/1.21gigawatts here.

Summary: Moto E815/Verizon Voiceplan/bluetooth dongle/No monthly fees.

Oh by the way...

I have a Cingular 8525 with the cheapest unlimited data plan Cingular offers... MediaNet (which I believe it now called MediaMax), and connect through Bluetooth. If you buy a PDA phone from them, they will try and tell you that you have to get the PDA Connect to get unlimited data, which is twice as much as MediaMax. If you don't think your internet usage in the car will be excessive, you actually don't have to get the PDAConnect plan, but they will still tell you that you do. Just change your plan online to the MediaMax $20/month plan, and change your settings in the phone to point to their "WAP" server instead of their "IP" server.

That's how I connect in the car.
