I would definitely go with the garmin. That is just my opinnion though; I have always been a garmin fan myself.
I personally think that the Iguidance is too expensive for what you get; the garmin is quite a bit cheaper, and is better in my oppinion. Just my 2 cents, for what it is worth.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't iGuidance more integrated with RR? Like, you can use the gas plug-in and it will route you to the station you select, or RR knows when IG is talking and lowers the music volume so you can hear it?
I use GMPC because it was inexpensive and I figured if it works for a zillion people on their PND, it ought to work pretty well on the PC. Which it does. I've been quite satisfied with it.
If you have a connection, it will download weather. I think if you have a Garmin subscription, you can get traffic data. And it has good POI's. It is also touchscreen friendly, easy to use, and you can easily control it from a rotary controller like a Powermate.
It also auto-switches to night mode, which is a nice feature that my handheld Tom-Tom doesn't have.
Did I mention the price?

At the Florida meet JohnWPB was showing off Garmin on his laptop, I cannot recall the version, but it came with a GPS unit. I am a hardcore iGuidance person, but I have to say, after seeing Garmin, I am really impressed with it. The GUI is much more suited for a car, in fact if it had the ability to play music you could actually use it as a front end. Has huge buttons and very easy to understand. It also has traffic service (pay service), I am thinking it is internet based. I use Sprint telenav for now and it has internet based traffic routing that is amazing, I am assuming that Garmin's is good also. It even has a gps based tripometer that looks similar to a plugin for CF. Flux is in the process of switching their nav engine to a new one, one of the possibilities is Garmn, but they say the SDK is a nightmare. Other choices are Sygic and some other one. They are also making it so we have the choice to embed what ever nav we want, since so many people have different preferences.

Mdawg did you ever get it working properly with RR?
Im in the same situation now, where I can decide between Garmin and iGuidance.
I have a garmin unit now and I love it, but looking to see what your thoughts are now that you have used it in a carpc setting.

I used to use routis which was the same as IG, then IG came along and I used it. For years this is all I would use. I tried them all. Then garmin came along and the graphics are very nice and the menus are easy to navigate. But then last weekend I too a trip about 100 miles and it lagged like I couldn't believe.
Maybe it was my setup, but it froze more times than I could tolerate and the only thing I could relate it to was the distance of the route.
I never had this happen with IG, so if your a long distance driver IGuidance all the way.

I'm currently using iG and considering upgrading to the latest version or switching to Garmin. I have a bit more research ahead of me before i decide, but one thing i was wondering about that I haven't found an answer to is does either IG09 or GMPC have the feature that you can save ur current location as a favorite without typing in the address? Like it just saves it using coordinates that it retrieves itself? I had this feature on a GPS on my phone and I loved it and the IG I have now doesn't seem to have it.

oh yea and also, if using GMPC with RR is there support for lowering the volume of music when it speaks? I assume that it won't act like IG where it can switch to the GPS screen automatically when it gives directions

If you are using ig4, cant you just click the area where the road name is displayed, it brings up the current lat/long with an option to save it as a favourite... Is this not what you are talking about?

yes the audio auto mutes now just like IG native with "navmute", and yes on the favorites thing just touch where you want and select save as favorite. Also the scrren does change back to the GPS if your in music or other skin when a turns is approaching, I didnt notice this before the navmute though.. maybe it did but I know its doing it now.. as soon as the voice kicks in it auto swiches to the turn preview then goes back to the last skin you were on after it finishes. I have'nt found a any issues inside car with GMPC, ever since the navmute it been perfect.

I use the newest version GMPC and it is so easy to use and integrate. If you get the OSK for it (for RR) it has all the embedding instructions right there in .ppt format. Took all of 5 minutes to do everything (embed and add the OSK)? Maybe less?

I might be going for Garmin, only because I see they have now added the live traffic routing in the PC version. Thats something I really need, especially being in Miami. i was going to go with Navmii, but they are taking too long to release the US maps.
