Can any GPS reciever read through a thin metal screen?

My Ebay GPS reciever reads fine sitting on the dash, but I'd like to mount it in the vent on top of the dash to hide it. It's almost the perfect spot, the only problem is the screen that covers it is metal and my reciever won't read through it. I'd rather get a new receiver than find another spot for it if possible. I cut some plastic out of it, but the mtal still hold it back. I've read on another forum that the receiver that comes with Pioneer AVIC-D3s reads right through it, so I'm thinking a better quality USB receiver will do the trick. Any suggestions?

Were you doing some stunt driving? It looks a little tilted.

If you can get into the dash somehow, maybe you can get it up under there somewhere away from the metal screen.

But will it read through a thin metal wall? The one I have won't even read through the tint in the back window. Where did you get that receiver?

If anything can do it, the BU-353 is a good bet. As quoted from the MP3Car.com store: "2. High sensitivity (Tracking Sensitivity: -159 dBm)" which is quite good.

My BU-353 is mounted inside and under my dash. It's not within line of site of anything (meaning that its behind/under thick dash material).

I get GREAT reception in there. Better than the reception I got when it was in my rear window actually (and I dont have tint).

I think it should definetely be able to be "seen" through that.
