Live traffic updates
Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone knows how some of the factory navigation systems get their "real time" traffic data, and if the nav. system itself re-routes your course accordingly?

I was wondering the same thing myself. Driving around metro Portland is annoying sometimes, considering I do not know all the back roads to bypass traffic yet :P

Which contry ?
US I think you guys use XM and there is another system I think called Radioinfo ( correct me if I'm wrong any one ) which is a sligtly diffrent version of TMC which is an FM signal which holds a data stream.
XM I think uses the new digital format of TPEG which is in use in the EU but not really transmitted by any one.
Does that help ???
Terran
PS - Check out my new live traffic project here....

Correct.... having played with the TMC service over here I have come to the conclusion this is the most effective way.
There is no fancy hardware needed just a web browser.... plus with the likes of Tmobiles Web n Walk mobile data is not an issue.
On later versions I plan to have a local install which has the bigger files etc it will require.... couple this with the Google cache prog on here some where you cut the need for data down even further.
Again - most people will be looking at on line tracking so will have some form of mobile data in place for that any way.

The Dash Express is supposed to be the end-all, be-all device for a traffic rerouting GPS. However, it has not yet hit the market.

Since Sonicxtacy02 is working on the "Live Traffic" project, the developer of the program may now work on the " Traffic Pattern" side of things to complement Sonicxtacy02's work.

This is one of the biggest features i want in my car. With the possibility of moving to Atlanta in the future, and the fact that I hate to be stuck in traffic, this is just something that I would love to have.
