any way to install Iguidance without dvd drive?

I have my car computer networked to my main computer wirelessly. and I can share every drive/folder.

but Iguidance installation software sucks because when it needs cd1 etc, I choose the dvd drive from my other computer but the installation won't proceed. it seems iguidance only would see a drive that is on the actual computer. I don't have a spare dvd drive to temporarily install on the car computer and the north america map files cd1 is just slightly to big to write on a 700 meg cd rom. (i do have a spare cd rom drive but not dvd drive)

does anyone know of a way I can trick Iguidance to reading my networked dvd drive or any way to proceed?

thanks in advance.

I found this on another post.... If i try the following, do you think Iguidance will accept it?

I think it will work, as long as I put this emulated drive on the car pc. but I think I remember the sucky iguidance install software doesn't even let you choose other folders, but I will try it and post results.

.....go to MS site and download MS Virtual PC and it free.
Google and download DaemonTool CD/DVD ROM emulator that you can mount an ISO image and act like regular/real CD/DVD drive.

Yes, I do that when I want to install anything from a CD. But I use Magic Disc, it works the same way. Make an ISO image of the CD you want to use, then mount it using Magic disc and it'll do the rest automatically.

what do you mean by mount it? do you mean once I create the iso image, just put it somewhere like a folder I create?

No, create the iso image. And then right click the Magic Disc icon in the task bar and click MOUNT. It'll let you browse for a file and you just choose the iso file you created, it'll mount it as a drive.

I haven't try this method yet with IG but I'm sure it will work (as I did it with other software).
how about copy the content to the CD/DVD into the HD let say C:\iGProg and start the installation from there.
If that doesn't work follow this step. (Remember the subst command?) It comes in handy in this case.
- Go to command prompt and type in this subst X: C:\iGProg then hit enter/return key.

That will create a virtual drive called X.
Once done, type subst X: /D at the command prompt to delete the virtual drive (note that the content in the actual folder isn't going to delete.)

Obviously, if you have the software on CD, you can create folder for each CD and use the command to re-mount the folder as request by the installer.

The advantage over create an ISO image of the DVD is that you have to install other software to read it. This method isn't need any.

thanks for your replies, I will try the above method/s and report back.

UPDATE. I got it working, but I did it the lazy way and just borrowed a spare dvd drive.

the DVD that has all the files and cd's on it actualy worked fine. guess windows and iguidance just didn't like me trying to install the software from a shared network.

Iguidance looks sweet as hell, I love how simple it looks, like anyone could use it if they don't even know how to use computers. It took a few loading of software for the gps to pinpoint, but seems ok so far.

does it contain points of interest as good as Delorme street atlas? because I have street atlast and was wondering if I should bother putting it on the carcomputer? i assume that even in 800 by 600 resolution that you can't really see anyting on street atlas, or push and buttons cause they're too small, right?

If you have other map application (Delorme or MS S&T), you should install it (if you have enough space). Either of those 2 app I mentions is really really suck with navigation but having excellent POI database.
