Is my BU-355 dead?

Hi guys. ive got one of the above. i havent managed to get it to power on yet. Ive taken the unit apart and applied +5v and ground directly to the connectors inside (red, black respectively). Yet the power LED still doesnt light up, does this mean my unit is dead? thanks guys

It sounds like it.
It also sounds like you voided your warranty by opening the unit up, too.
