I would recommend Globalsat BU353 usb. It has the latest SIRF Star III chipset.
Available from www.linitx.com for £54.99

Some software is better in other countries than others. It all depends on the quality of the map data and how recent that data is.
Hardware is pretty much universal.

No, that is just for the GPS receiver and necessary software, drivers etc.
It is good, and with the latest chipset is fast.

As DarquePervert said, a lot depends on the map software.
In that respect we are the poor relations in the UK compared to the USA.

For ease of integration with Road Runner we basically have two choices.

MAP MONKEY, which uses DESTINATOR 3 maps. The maps are old and not necessarily easy to obtain. But integration is simple.

The alternative is PC NAVIGATOR 7 (www.directions.ltd.uk). £49.99 for UK and £69.99 for Europe, both standard editions The maps are the latest Navteq,
Q1 - 2007. It does integrate nicely but requires a bit of work.

Search this site for the thread "PC Navigator 7 - Europe" for more info. Some good work has been done by Dopehead to make it easier.
