iguidance suggestions/complaints/anything
I've been in contact with a developer from iNAV and they've been pretty open to suggestions, i threw in a few some of which are being implemented right now for the next version. If any of you had any suggestions/complaints, let me know in this thread.

If they could import a GPX file to create POI's, Iguidence along with a UMPC could be a standard for geocaching.

Custom POI database would be a good one. That would also allow the fleability of internet updates for POI's instead of buying a whole new revision.
Also I am not sure if you have ever used a Garmin GPS, but if you dont have a route planned (just driving with the gps on), then the top streetname bar displays the name of the next corssroad and has the ability to say "approaching Blah Blah Road". So when using the nav routing, then the top street bar displays your next turn, but when just roaming around, it displays the next crossroad.
Then to go with voice prompts, instead of a simple volume and on/off, I think a menu with checkboxes would be nice. So you can select or deselct which prompts to display. So the "approaching road" can be turned on and off. Then the "in xxx feet turn blah" can be turned on/off or set to a greater warning distance, or anything else.

I haven't and this would be a cool feature, but what does it do if you approach a crossroad that is different on the left and right?
Example: In Raleigh, NC driving down a Glenwood Ave I reach one intersection that is Blue Ridge Rd to the right and Lead Mine Rd to the left.

I dont know. I have only used one when I visit my dad. Perhaps it would display "Lead Mine Rd./Blue Ridge Rd." with the one on your left (as given by current direction of travel being first, and then the one on the right (as given by current direction travel) after the slash. And the audio would be "Approaching Lead Mine Road on the left and Blue Ridge Road on the right".
Now potentially, if driving fast on a highway with a bunch of more rural roads with different names at the same intersection, the TTS engine would get bogged down, so it would have to check if the TTS speech engine was avaialable for speaking. If it was, then speak. If not then wait until it is free, and then once available again, refresh what to speak so it doesnt say "Approaching Rd B" when you just passed C sort of thing. But I think this sort of rarity should be coded in definately, but the majority of times, this would not ever come into play.

1. An SDK of some sort.
2. Ability to search for an POI by just the name, e.g., "Burger King."
3. Enter destination by Lat/Lon. This went away from 2.1.3 to 3.0. We have to reshack go get it back.
4. QWERTY keyboard (optional. Can pick between ABC and QWERTY).
5. Auto-zoom
6. When routing to a new destination, give the user 3 different routes so they can pick one (love this feature in the Prius's nav). What I find is that a lot of the time, iGuidance doesn't necessarily give me the quickest path.

@5: yes I like it. I really enjoyed that feature in Streets and Trips. That is where the current position is fixed at the bottom centre, and then the next turn would be always at the top but depending on the bends on the raod the horizontal position sort of moves at the top. So the closer you get the more zoomed in it is sort of thing.

Just so you know, IG does have the ability, it is in settings I believe, I can find it if you need.
I would like the ability to split screen. During Nav, the right hand side would mirror the left, however, they could independantly zoom in and out (though the right would always be forced to be more zoomed in than the left), so that I can get an overall view of where I am, as well as a zoomed in view of exactly which way I have to go/turn/proceed.
Michael
P.S. Do you really think you have INAVs ear on this. Marvin (another member here) is way close with them, and it is my understanding that they are, in general, not very receptive to outside ideas and influence. Perhaps this is changing, but I wonder whether you actually have someone over there willing to listen.

great ideas, i also wanted speech recognition but that is too far off i'm sure, but if that microsoft voice recognition utility can be combined with iguidance, so i can spell out the street, or say the street name so i don't have to take my hands off the road, damn, that would make it the most premium gps software ever.

anyway like i was saying, i'm surprised voice recognition hasn't been implemented yet, considering every pda has a built in microphone. the potential is there, even if you have to install a third party program to do it, i wouldn't mind it as long as it worked.

One thing I love about Streets and Trips is that I can plan my trip on my pc, easily customize a different route if desired and then save it to my usb kangaroo drive and then easily import it into my carpc. I hate having to start up my carpc IG app and then define different favorites or poi's to get the route I want. With S&T's, open file and I'm done. Simple and fast and I can save all my trips so I can easily recall them anytime.
At least twice a year, I travel from Upstate NY to the Florida Keys. Neither S&T nor IG picks the route I want to go (they always route me towards the DC area but I prefer Rt 81 to Rt 66 etc.) but with S&T, I can EASILY right click on points and add them to the route and then simply say redo the route. For me, S&T is hands down the bast for that. The other thing that I like more about S&T is the ability to visually see routes/road names/etc. clearly. Zoom out in IG and S&T and it's pretty clear that S&T is more detailed and clearer.
In S&T, I love the way I can have the directions pane open, click on any "point" (eg turn on this road) and it quickly displays that point on the nav map...really easy and clear.
IG's voice is much clearer than S&T and it's auto rerouting is hands down better than S&T but for the most part, I use IG simply because it's "built in" to RR and DigitalFX but I am looking at the source now for Mappoint/S&T and if I can get them to work the way I want (like muting winamp volume on gps speech), I might permanently switch.
Just my $0.02

bambam, you can plan your trip at home on your desktop, and then just copy C:\iNav iGuidance\itinerary.dat file to your USB drive........
