GPS Hibernate/Restart Hardware ID problem

Hi all,

I'm using the GPS module that came with S&T 2005, worked fine for me on my last carpc, now it's giving me grief.

If I do a restart or hibernate/resume, the hardware ID on my GPS device changes. Normal startup produces normal results, everything works and is happy. If I do a restart or h/r it comes back as a serial-usb device with a different hardware ID from my USB gps device. It also changes comports when it does this new hardware ID thing. Standard is COM3, new serial-usb device is on COM5 (COM4 being my sirius.)
Since the hardware ID/COMport changes on restarts/resumes, Xport is useless, since it disables the right port, but when it comes back that port is no longer where the gps was so it does nothing.

The computer acts the same way regardless of Xport running or not, just thought I would throw that out there that I have tried.

I have tried using the drivers from the S&T 2007 disc and the PL2303 drivers from prolific/pharos, both provide the same results, however the S&T driver is called ser2plsms.sys and the PL2303 ser2pl.sys. The hardware ID in the normal operation of the device matches the hardware ID of the device in the S&T .inf driver file. But when I restart/resume, the computer occasionally asks for the disc containing the ser2pl.sys file. THAT file happens to match the hardware ID of the restarted/resumed usb-serial device.

I can have both drivers installed, and that stops the new hardware found screen, but then it switches comports every time I reboot/resume, which is garbage.

I tried searching and didn't find much in the way of hardware ID's changing to cause problems.

Anyone seen this? Or am I just using the wrong driver? I can't find my S&T 2005 disc so I used the 2007 drivers.

UPDATE: In addition to the hardware ID changing after a restart/resume, XPort3 reports that two of my usb devices (MitchJ's sirius interface and my Microsoft usb gps) are no longer running on their installed drivers, but instead are both on (FTDIBUS).

I'm thinking its time for a complete reinstall of Windows, I think my usb drivers are fubarred.
