winamp plugin -> gps data on char lcd

Anybody think they can make a winamp plugin to output gps data to the character lcd? I think if you have an nmea antenae you may be able to do it.

How about a standalone application to output stuff like time, location, speed, elevation etc.

I know you can do it!! have at it!

i have an app that I hacked it sorta but it's called GPSthing.
I got the source code and messed around a bit to output Heading ( N,NE,E,SE,E etc..), Speed, Altitude, and # of sat tracking.

The CPU and PC temperature you see is just from MBM5 using an OSD. I was too lazy to figure out how to hardcode it into the app since im not a C++ programmer.

Here is the link to the program: http://www.coastnet.com/~jas/gpsthing.html

and here is my screenshot of it.

I can post a link to download my hacked version of it but you HAVE to use it at 800x600 res. or it won't come out right. Let me know if you want my hacked version as well.

I've created a java program which uses GPS data to control winamp. It also displays the GPS data and some other information in a window.

You're welcome to adapt the source code to output to a char lcd if you can.

Here's the link:

oh, that's right, whatshisname jwilliams moved his site. I should have a version of his plugin sitting around somewhere I can put up there. It'll be a while before I can update the site though. Should be done by the weekend.

It would be no problem to output the information the the character lcd - started writing my own winamp plugin at one point, so it shouldnt be too much trouble. The only problem, is that I do not know how to get it to share the screen with another program (winamp lcd plugin). If you want JUST the gps data, that should be no big deal at all.

I haven't tried it yet.. But my plans were on having 2 lcds.. one for the player and one to replace my clock I have a usb/serial/parallel hub.. someone told me they are using the same thing and it works perfectly for it.. although from what I've read other wise it might not work.

THere is a great app that could be hacked to display GPS data and winamp data at same time if you know C++, the markus zendher plugin ( URL in my page under software).
I will eventually try this someday, but since I have both a LCD and a char LCD screen, I hardly look at my char LCD screen to attempt this, nevertheless it would be cool.

i have a tft also.. but i keep it tucked away most of the time. I just thought it would be cool to have my clock displaying stuff like that Maybe i brush up on my coding skills and make an ap that will out put gps data, time & date, and temperature data. I don't know if I have the slightest chance of being able to do that though, since it's been a long time since i used anything except perl and php, and I don't have a helluva lot of free time

Theres an LCD driver called LCD Smartie which can take info from Winamp, MBM, and other programs, and it has support for dll plugins. If someone could write a gps plug in, it would be easier then writing a whole LCD interface program.

here the site for it: http://www.rendo.dekooi.nl/~fjbgp/smartie/

Wow, that seems perfect for what I want if someone can figure out a GPS plugin it will be even better! Great find! (now i just have to find the time to finish wiring my LCDs and try it out)
