coolnavi 700

Any experience with this? Looks like it does everything I want from a carputer (gps, mp3, divx) and it has a vid input. Looks just right size to fit in a double din.

Anyone with any experience with this? Either the screen must be bad, sound is terrible, etc.... I would LOVE to know.

coolnavi link

coolnavis.com.... coolnaviusa.com, etc...
somehow I figured people on this board could google. It's made by coolsat, who typically does fta receivers.

It's a dual core risc processor, it can picture in picture with nav/media, and is running windows mobile. Hardware-wise it looks like the best thing I could think of for a car. Only issue would be to customize the software, but since it's win-mobile, that sounds easy....
(I am addicted to album art, and would need to modify the media player)

It is touch, 7" widescreen, video input, sd/usb/cf.

I can't find anything not to like about it.

It's about 400 on ebay.

While it's a nice little device, you can only have 2GB of music on it at a time...Car PCs have basically an unlimited amount of space capability... you just need a big enough PSU to be able to handle 4 1TB HDs....

It's very readable in the sunlight.

The photos I took represent how it looks where I mounted it, the view-ability and the clarity is great.

It has brightness control, contrast, etc. you can go into night view mode if you want.

With any screen mounted in a vehicle, it will be more or less visible where you ultimately place it.

What specs do you need for the screen?

Is it transreflective? Nits brightness / contrast? antiglare, or polished screen?

toyota double din location (I have a tacoma, and sienna) requires good off angle viewing, and little/no glare.

Also, media player10 for mobile, and album art????

Hmm....
Silabs or adstech fm... (probably need to write a win mobile app for fm....)

Toyota? Eww (j/K) No idea on the fit in a Toyota. It comes with windshield mount, you could mount it into a Civic double din dash piece with little modification needed. When fabricating a mount you can use an adjustable fitting to change your angle when needed. Antiglare,( all touch screens become antiglare if you use your fingers enough times.) (no idea on the nits/brightness or contrast ratio, it looks good, easy to read, and is super fab in direct sunlight, no glare)

This shows how it fits into a double din of a 06-08 Civic

Windows ce 5 core edition, no album art, it's a first gen Coolnavi product. Comes with it's own media player, etc. you can write your own stuff if you want.

It's only a $400 7' Navi/media player. It has features that a $1300 in dash navi wished it had, it lacks some too, but it's a solid unit with a lot of possibilities.

It does come with an fm transmitter, built in video encoder. It's a geeks Navi, anyone who wants to play with it's capabilities can.

If it doesn't wash in direct sunlight, it must be a good screen, possibly transreflective -- thanks.

I love my toyota, kinda like you do your 8thgen civic. I ran 330,000 problem free miles in a tacoma, that I reluctantly had to part with to upgrade to a 4 door tacoma, because of growing kids. Translation -- the toyota stays ;-)

I'm a geek, I work in a software company, and have access to everything msdn, that's why the coolnavi appeals to me. media player 10 for mobile supports album art, so that would be the ticket there. I also need FM receiver, because I want a replacement for a HU, not just an add on nav. Silabs has a CE usb driver, but no stock application. adstech, hasn't so far been responsive to requests about a ce app. Wonder who I could push to get that done...... hmm..

I know this sounds odd, but for me, fm and media would be 90% of what I'd want this for. I almost never need a nav. (90% of the time, I'm commuting to work, and I know that route, and if I'm on vacation, I flew there... a permanent mount in my truck doesn't help much.)

And the price? $400 is what you'd pay for a xenarc screen alone, and this out of the box is a screen AND a higher functioning carputer than many whose posts I've read.

Back on topic. What is the os loaded on? Is there built in nvram? How much? Is there a restore boot option (example: hold down 2 keys while powering on) to reflash from usb? (always want the 'unbrick' option available)

I did some more playing around, and some searching.

First off:

holding the power button on the front and the OK button boots into rescue mode, looks for a restore file off the usb device port.

Did some more digging to see if I can change the boot screen... found a Zamm.bmp.. and a t1.exe file (interface bootstrap file) with the zamm icon.. so I did a search..

http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/23/z...em-clears-fcc/

then I found..

http://www.zamm.co.kr/shop/product/d...brand_no=TM101

WOW!

I am going to rip apart my navi the next week or when I get enough courage to, to see if all the hardware is in there for the tc tuner and all the rest of the dbm stuff.. mmmm...

I don't read Korean.. but looking at the images... saweet. Wonder what they had to rip out of the Coolnavi to get it into North America.

What a find!!!
400cd/m2 120degree viewing.
64meg nvram boot

USB 1.1? Not 2.0? hmm.

dvb-t doesn't do us much good in u.s. -- what's your thinking on this?

I'm sure the ONLY difference between zamm and coolnavi is software loaded...

A little work on the apps side, and I'm beginning to think, this will give the infill g4 a run for it's money...

A lot of stuff updated on my thread on 8th Civic.

Apps running and more. Totally new look to the interface too.

Pages for doing some mods to the Coolnavi
