Explain to me....

Explain to me what All i would need to have a GPS system in my car.

From what i read, i need a Carputer, LCD to see, GPS receiver ($90-??)....and that's it?

There is no service fees or nothing like XM radio or anything?

GPS is funded by your tax dollars and is a completely passive system. What that means is, there is no way for the satallites to know your position or even what equipment you are using. GPS works by triangulating your position across multipul microwave streams being emitted by orbital satallites. The GPS Reciever, or the software that drives it, then uses that information to plot your position on a map.

You would also need some sort of maping software for it to be useful.

So i guess all i need is the antenna to hook to a computer...and some mapping software that works with GPS....right?

got any links for bundled GPS/software?

try www.gps4fun.com I'm not sure how good their prices are, but they have a huge selection.
