Problem with Xport 3 (serial ports)
The scan will not find any serial port on xport. I can select ports in the drop down boxes and enable them but it won't show up in device manager or gpsinfo scan. The only thing that showed up in device manager is COM1 and COM2. As for gpsinfo, when it gets to any port besides 1 and 2, the scan hangs or freezes. Please help.

Anyone? I'm going out of my mind. I don't think it's my receiver (BR-355) because it's blinking red and it was still working right before I reformat the PC. It just not communicating with the ports. I checked the bios and device manager and the COM ports are enabled.

Silly question......did you go into the serial ports and change the baud rate to 4800? Also, are you going into the mouse/keyboard ps/2 connector or using a ps/2 to serial port converter?

Thanks for the reply. Yea I did change the baud rate for both COM ports to 4800 in device manager properties. I'm using a ps/2 to usb adapter. And I did install the prolific driver for it but nothing works. Unless I install the wrong driver but I'm pretty sure I have the right one.

hmmmm.....which serial port emmulator did you use? It probably would not come up as com 1 or 2. If the emmulator is working it would probably come up as com 3-5 as 1 and 2 are the built in serials. Another thing to try is actually turn the serial ports off in the bios. See if the emmulator is coded for one them (1 or 2) and is competing.
In case I am reading this wrong, xport is not an emmulator. It splits the port AFTER the emmulator.

I have not tried an emulator since I didn't need it before the reformat. What do you suggest?
Edit: Wouldn't the driver convert the signal to serial? Then Xport will split up one of the COM ports? Or am I understanding this wrong?

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with that particular GPS. I have an earthmate and microsoft. I'm doing some searching to see what I can find. Not sure how it could have converted usb to serial before. Wondering if there was something loaded that you don't remember. Still have the installation disk? See if there is a USB folder on the disk. It might have something there.

Try unplugging the USB and plugging into another USB. See if and WHAT the computer is installing. Does the device manager show any unknown devices?
On the driver, again, I am not familiar with that GPS. And the only drivers I can find so far are for PocketPC. I'm not finding any windows drivers at all for that unit.

Another silly question......what software (operating system) are you running? Seems there is something special for Vista.

I used the driver for my particular model on here: http://www.usglobalsat.com/custom.asp?recid=6 . Unfortunately, I don't have the installation disk anymore--it's been a while since I bought it. The device will show unknown device until I install the driver. I've been searching like crazy since yesterday but I can't find the answer.

Did you try this?
Same page you got the driver. Did you go through this? Also, until it works, I would disable your serial ports in the bios.

Hmm..honestly I haven't. Let me take a look, but I'm at work right now so I can't mess with the carpc. Will post back.
Edit: Well, that article didn't tell me much. The driver is correctly installed but I didn't see "Prolific USB-to-Serial Com Port (COM X)" under the ports drop down in device manager when I plug in the receiver.
