fugawi etymology
I think I have this right... I've only gotten this information passed down from one of my film school buddies in college explaining one of the many Dennis Miller references I didn't get... That was years ago, but here's the etymology:
Why is Fugawi a good name for a GPS?
There was an old TV show called F-troop--a bunch of guys dressed up in army fatigues doing army things. Anyway, every now and then they'd run into these natives. The natives were called the Fugawi. But when asked by the troop (usually lost when they ran into each other) the way the natives would introduce themselves to the troop was "We're the Fugawi". For some reason, I think it became an issue and they changed the name of the natives to the Hugawi. The message was that when the troop got lost, "We're the Hugawi" was a crude approximation to "Where the heck are we?"
I may have details wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's why Fugawi's a great name for a GPS. Old timers please correct me if that's partially or totally wrong.
