OEM GPS recommendations

Well... I was going to get an ET301 from sparkfun, however, they've been out of stock for awhile. So I have started to explore other options. Does anyone have any reasonable suggestions?

Some I've seen...

Thanks!

Thanks!

I've been in contact with customer service at sparkfun and they are replacing the et-301 with the et-312 reciever late this nov thru dec on a new eval board as well. Here's the info on the replacement chip-

I think it will be worth the wait as a oem gps..

PS. there's a thread on et-301 already here with some user's.

-UPDATE

For those interested.. Sparkfun electronics ran into some unexpected hurdles with the new pcb boards for the et-312 gps chip, and they should be ready in about 2-3 weeks.
Customer service has assured me it should be ready by the 1st -or- 2nd week in January 2008 for purchase.

How the heck do you use that? I didn't see any connectors on it really. Do you have to solder wires to it or something? (Not that I mind soldering, but the smaller stuff I find frustrating as my soldering iron sucks and my skills are poor.). I did fix my broken lilliput tuochsreen by soldering around the connector, that was a difficult enough job for me.

I would say the best way would be to get one of their evaluation or as some call them demo boards. They have some already setup with another receiver or you can get them with out one and solder it your self. I am sure they will have some with the ET312 already to go after they release it.

Thanks. I was totally confused. I thought that was the whole thing you just hooked the cable to an antenna and to the chip, then somehow to the serial port on a computer or something. So that is just the brains and lacks the communications it goes on something like this?

Darn I thought these OEM modules would be only a bit more expensive than a regular GPS mouse.

The GPS ET-312 board is ready and now available with both serial usb/dual RS232 connection for the price of one. The board is a bit more oversized but I'm sure anyone can put that aside due to the two-in-one factor. Be sure to get your coin cell and needed accesories..

I'm testing now OEM's tyco a1031dr (usb) and sirfIII's in different housings (rs232, usb). Well tyco get much more powerful sygnal from hi-flying sats. SirfIII uses larger number of sattelites, even 5° over-horisont, but all sygnals are weak. Finally I've decided that the difference of these gps's is less than statistically proximity. (how it will be in english?)

ps. odometer-gyroscope feature - completely different speech.
pps. going to add fresh antaris-dr to my collection

so just to be clear....the ET-312 will work as a gps reciever? Just need the antenna, connect to the pc and add software? I want to run the shark fin antenna that is available in the mp3car store.
