Bump for more info on this, as I saw a few threads about this and having issues with a 5-10 second delay. I guess I will have to continue researching this one though, anyone have input though?

Check out the AyAy-Sir gps recievers. They use sirfstar chips, and work exptremely well. I love mine, and wont be using anything else.

Just bought a Bu-353 and it did have a 10 second delay out of the box. I downloaded and used a program called SIRFdemo that can apparently reset the unit to factory settings. I'm not sure what I did, but after monkeying around with SIRFdemo for a while, the delay disappeared, and the unit works wonderfully now.
I also searched through the "delay" threads, and noticed that there didn't seem to be any with a definitive explanation of how to fix units with a delay. I don't think most BU-353 users experience the delay issue though, because it wouldn't be as popular if they did.
I have no complaints now that the delay is gone. The unit has quite a bit to recommend it...relatively inexpensive, waterproof, built-in magnetic mount, SIRF III and WAAS.

Why buy from eBay? The prices aren't typically any better for new GPS units from what I've seen, and if the unit you receive is defective or incompatible with your system for some reason, it will be a pain to return it. Decide on what GPS you want, and then Froogle around about for the best price.

I had the Gamin Nuvi 360, which is also an excellent device. And now it's only $250, This is such a handy device, and is so well executed, that you would be hard-pressed not to love it. The first thing I noticed about the Nuvi was its incredibly small size and weight. Here is some more features and reviews

What?!? You don't have endless money and patience to spend building something that works three quarters as well for half the time?

The delay mentioned below is interesting, can you be more specific on the delay itself, what was delayed by 10 secs? I know the SiRF chipset fairly well, and can't think of what delay you mean.
