I did search, and noticed that there are some connectivity issues. What do I need to look for? I am not even really sure what questions to ask on this. Please enlighten me.

connectivity issues? I've been using ig3 with pharos360 usb, and so far it hanged up just once. Moreover, I use it under wine emulation on linux, where it has more chances to fail.
But it doesn't. Under windows, what's most important is that you have proper usb->serial driver for your gps receiver, and there should be no issue. Ig3 is rather well tested, and just a few reported any problems.

I use a USG-BR355 antenna. No issues here.
