GPS Not running correctly

I have Holux GR 213u Sirf Star III. It is supposedly a 9600 Baud device. It will only work in Iguidance 4.0 at 4800 baud. The second i try it at 9600 it won't find it. Also, it only works sometimes. Sometimes with Xport, sometimes not. Now, could it be the fact it is going through USB 1.0 ? Any suggestions would be great.

4800 is the correct setting for most GPS units.

As far as using with xport? That's beyond me. Good luck.

A gps reciever is not a high speed device. My sirf starIII equiped reciever is plugged into a 1.0 port and functions perfectly. Your not using x-port to set com ports over 9 are you? Some guidance programs supposedly dont agree with com ports over 9.

It sounds like it may be jumping com ports. Next time it doesn't work, check the device in the Device Manager.

Are you using a USB hub? sometimes they can cause problems. If so try a different USB port.

Maybe even consider trying GPS Gate, it has a 14 day trial and is alot more user friendly and easier to setup that xport

Ok.... Now I have a new system and new problems! Using the Same Holux 213u that once worked fine, it is giving me hell. I have done everyhting correctly. Windows recognizes it and assigns a comm port steady. If I open any program (ex. GPS viewer) it will find it and when I start GPS" it begins. The script starts running and all the data streams. Problem : It never blinks, or locks onto any satelites, no matter how long I have it running, or where the mouse is. I have left it as the only USB devise, so it's not apower issue. Any ideas? PLEASE HELP!

OK... I used SiRF Demo (google it, free download) and really had no idea what I was doing. It still debuged as usual nad gave logs. However, after scrapping about for about and our, like magic I locked onto 17 Sats.. ?? I wish I could tell you exactly what was wrong in hopes of helping others, but I have no clue!

Thank you anyways...

The only other thing i can suggest is checking the following

1. in device manager goto advanced properties on the com port its been allocated and check its baud rate it shud be 4800, the rest should be default values.

2. Check that the same settings are apllied to your GPS program using the same com and baud rate.

3. You are using a compatible setting ie SIRF/NMEA

These units should be usually a plug and play have you tried it with any navigation software?

also check to see if you have a new mouse in your device manager, there is a known bug with windows, and with usb gps receivers where it thinks there is a mouse there that dosnt exist and that causes issues between the mouse and gps, just disable it if there is more than one mouse and you only have 1 mouse/touchscreen i did that with mine and the issues i had vanished
