GPS Power On Delay

I have a Navibe GM720 SiRF III USB GPS Receiver. When i first power on my caputer there is about a 1-2 minute delay before the receiver picks up signal. If i leave my caputer in standby there is zero delay. Is this typical of all GPS receivers, or did i just buy a crappy one? Also using Iguidance 4 there is a small delay. Its off by about 30 yards, is this also normal?

The 1-2 sec delay before the GPS picks up a signal after cold boot is pretty normal.

I can't say about iG4 being behind...

Its a 1-2 Minute delay. So I'm assuming its not normal since you said 1-2 seconds is normal?

They call it "warm up". There are 3 types of warm up (here they are for your GPS)...

Hot Start: Average < 1 seconds (typical TTFF 95%)
Warm Start: Average < 38 seconds (typical TTFF 95%)
Cold Start: Average < 42 seconds (Typical TTFF 95%)

My GPS is just like this, I have no idea how to change it but I know mine came set to hot though. Hope this helps!

It came "set to hot"? What does that mean? I was assuming cold start meant no power, and hot start meant it already had power? If i put my pc in standby I believe that it still powers the gps via the usb port. So when i resume from standby the gps signal is already there
