I have a BU-353 too and it is awesome. And yes it is SIRFIII.

The pharos 360/560 are pretty good too. (SIRFII/SIRFIII and the 360 glows blue )

All USB is serial... so yes it is serial. Never had a problem from resume. Although from what I have seen around here half the time if you have resume issues it is the motherboard. Other time it is the device. So it will fix it if you are lucky, but it wont neccessarily work.

I think maybe this time its this GPS reciever. I do have to have my things plugged into certain USB ports. Like my Sound Blaster has to be on the USB 2.0 PCI CARD Port, so do all my touch panels and pointers. Then everything else goes on the onboard ports, but at least something ports on a port. No matter what port I put this GPS on, it doesnt resume at all.

True but it doesn't use Sirf by default, you need to use SiRFdemo to change it into SiRF mode.

You can also reset the unit through that tool, which may help with your resume problem.

I have my BU-353 mounted UPSIDE DOWN UNDER my TRUNK (magnet). INSIDE the trunk lining.

And I still get 8/10 satellites on average.

8/10 satellites w/GPS upside down under your car is very good. You could perhaps get 10/12 satellites by turning your car now upside down.

Possibly. I didn't feel comfortable having my GPS antenna accessible from the outside due to the neighborhood I live in.

I guess I could have mounted it inside the rear windshield somewhere.. but I'm lazy.
