free maps or not?

hi everyone,
I am planning to install a car pc with RR and a GPS. The question is can I find free maps for Europe, even old ones, or should I plan on buying a reciever with the maps?
thanks for your tips.

Maps arent' free unless you want to use an internet-based setup like Google Earth or somesuch.
And PC-based receivers don't typically come with map data unless you buy a package deal with the receiver and software.

Thanks for the infos.
I was hoping for a cheap solution as a GPS mouse is less than 40 Euros, some software are free like the freedrive...but the maps alone are way too expensive compared to a standalone solutions like Gramin or Tomtom.
