PC software for gps navigation
I have a windows based carpc, indash touch screen etc, and a USB GPS reciever for the PC. i use roadrunner as my front end, but I wont be upset if i have to run the nav program by itself.
what i need is a nav system that has auto routing, shortest route, turn here etc, all the normal BS.
the problem is I live in New Zealand, so im reluctant to spent $100US or more on a program that comes with maps for the US, i think its safe to say i will NEVER be driving there so paying for those maps seems a bit of a waste.
I can get garmin compatible maps for NZ from here
http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com/
but im having real trouble finding a PC based program that is worth using, and can take the maps that i can access.
suggestions, links anything helpfull would be great

Does Destinator have NZ maps? There is also TomTom, but again, not sure if there are NZ maps or not.

I know destinator can be made to run on the pc (search mapmonkey or freedrive). I am not 100% sure about TomTom, but I would guess it has been done.

Here's a list of PC software for gps navigation, but a brief look shows there isn't anything for NZ . You may look into Garmin nRoute + New Zealand maps by Garmin, or explore the suggestion of using Destinator.

One of the main reason I held back on a carputer is the lack of navigation, until now hopefully.
How good is the free map? Can you post some screenshots?

I read in another thread that someone had an add-in for Google Earth that allowed routing. I have no idea where you are in NZ, but I just looked, and they have some detailed coverage. With cached maps, could this be a solution? I know that a lot of people are running GE in RoadRunner.

woodsnuff. look out for the upcoming garmin mobile pc.
Only problem is it will be sold with US maps. I am not sure if it will be made to adapt to third party map like the way with did with nRoute.
see my post: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gps/...rmin+mobile+pc
