Should I use Street Atlas, or MS Streets and Trips? (or other?)

I have a copy of Street Atlas that my dad gave me, and I used to use it on my laptop, it worked fine. My friend Chris, who also has a carPC says he prefers Streets and Trips a lot more, and offered to give me a copy. Which do you guys suggest, and why? Additionally, I know there lots of free versions of this software out there... I'm totally open to that too! Whatever works best is what I plan on using.

I am using the Mobile Impact frontend, so if you're using that frontend, ESPECIALLY please give me feedback

There are no free versions of routing software other than google earth really and the one with the routing options isnt actually free.

I like Streets and Trips 2007, as well as iGuidance v 4 UMPC.

google earth isnt free :T or at least GPS direction function isnt
