i came across this on the mytreo site looking for bluetooth gps receivers. looks pretty dandy! i can use it on my phone and in my car.

I would go with the sirf star iii one, but its not practical with the amount of batteries you will be going through..

it says in the descriptions that they both have a rechargeable battery pack

I'm skeptical.

you think windows will really like a battery powered gps? even if it is sirf III chip the battery power will not be consistent enough for windows to keep dropping and restarting the "lock on".

this is my just educated guess but does anyone else agree that your gps will not always be locked on due to power fluctuation?

we already have enough problems.

im glad i posted this. i never knew that such a thing could become a problem. they both do come with car charger cables though. just leave them plugged in when you really need it to be.

but i do see how doing such thing is more of a hassle than its worth.

I am also looking for a new GPS bluetooth receiver as I fried my Holux one trying to hook it up to my CarPC with a non-standard (power wires only) USB cable... oops.

Primarily, I want a bluetooth GPS receiver that is semi-hard-wired in on the dash (power only, from 12 V car source for example) 99% of the time, BUT, also can be unplugged and taken with me for my windows mobile based phone for a GPS solution out of the car.

Can anyone help me decide? I was looking at the Holux M-1200 for example.
Key factors for me, are that I don't want a large lithium battery that could expand and blow up on the dash from intense heat (the battery on the other Holux I had did swell) but I also don't want a direct connect USB GPS unit (like my old BU-353) because I don't want the extra traffic on the USB hub, AND of course I want to be able to have B-tooth connectivity for my phone.

one of those keychain ones seems like it would be close to perfect for what you are wanting. they run on internal batteries. I'm sure those use a cig lighter to charge or be powered on all the time. the only down side I see is that the battery isn't interchangable. well to my knowlage of a brief over view anyways.

im sure it can be since it is running off a battery. but you will need to keep an eye on that battery level. i think on one of those, it says it can maintain up to 10 hours on the batter. maybe its both.

I would just assume take the battery out, and have it hard wired, because it will very rarely need to be carried around, but it still needs that option.

I so agree..... i have a cigarette lighter GPS that works with bluetooth, and i am also a speeder and when im going about 105 mph the GPS will loose lock and I have to slow down to get it again, i am hopping it was just a bug with my old install and the new system will handle it perfectly.
