Where is this piece of info from? I'm getting some conflicting info, or perhaps I'm just interpreting the info I'm getting incorrectly (which is likely the case).

Are all/most/which-ones Garmin mapping products in gmapsupp.img format?

Coz i just tried it. I removed the US data that came with the disc and put in third party map (malsingmaps.com, it's for Singapore and Malaysia) and viola, what you see on the screen is my street in Singapore.

Now, there is a disclaimer here. At the moment i am not sure if Garmin Mobile PC will read a SD card drive, so I am not sure you can just pop in one of the NT map on SD card and expect it to work. (some one with that kind of setup please try)

However, as long as you can generate the gmapsupp.img from any source (most of us will use mapsource), Mobile PC will take it.

Thanks! That sounds (very) promising . My confusion stems from a piece of info I received from Garmin. If I interpret that info correctly (perhaps not, because I'm not familiar with various Garmin mapping products), then this is not supposed to work at all. Garmin Mobile PC is supposed to work only with the map data it comes with. Here's the link to the Garmin Mobile PC compatibility with other Garmin map products (post #65).

One more thing.
I couldn't get it work with gpsgate for now. Which is annoying as I can't use my gpsgate server tracking as well as my frontend.

just to give you an update.
As i mentioned, i deleted the NA map set that came with it and added a third party map. I was bored, so I decided to copy the world basemap set from my mobile xt plus added a bali routable map (also third party)

guess what, it works
so i have

gmapprom.img - my Singapore Routable map
gmapbmap.img - world base map
gmapsupp.img - Bali routable.

These are all 3rd party (non-Garmin) maps, aren't they?
