BU-353 Query

I have a G-Mouse BU-353 & all the other installs I have looked at have included this part :

So can anyone tell me if I need this other part which came in the same box aswell :

It would save me a USB port which are, at the moment, at a premium.

Cheers

I have the same antenna (BU-353) And I have no idea what the other module is. I just hooked up the antenna into my USB post and installed the drivers- and had no problems with it.

It looks to me like it is another gps puck, with a PS2 connection.

Odd that they sent both, if so..

The second one doesn't have a USB port on it, does it?
Just wondering if it could be a PS2 adapter for some strange reason.

You might try plugging it in just to see if the OS recognizes it.

Oops. I should have mentioned it came with a cable to convert it from PS/2 to USB aswell. I'll try without it & see what happens

I would suggest using the USB. I can't imagine how it is getting enough power over PS2...whatever it is has to be some hack

Oh I mean I'll try it first without the extra sender/receiver(?) if I get nothing or its not right then I'll plug it into a USB port aswell.

I am surprised that no-one else has come across this before though, I thought there were a few people running the BU-353..........

I have two of them- one for my work truck (and left removable) and one for my carpc that will have the wiring hidden and be mounted somewhat permanently.

Neither of them came with anything like that.
Suction cup and the USB receiver is all.

Thanks rogerdugans. Its interesting...........

Perhaps they sent it to me by accident? It is also magnetised like the normal G-Mouse unit but there is no LED. Odd. There appears to be no identifying labels on it either

Alien probe?

I have bought 2 BU353's and both came with picture #1 only, no other parts.

Did you buy this new, on ebay, from some guy with a big trenchcoat on the street?

Ah, I see. Mine didn't come with that other piece either. Looks like Christmas came early for you

I bought it from a reputable supplier here in NZ. It came in the light blue box with all the other pieces (including suction cup) just like everyone elses. When I lifted the packing up to get the disc this piece was below it

Ok so when plugged in it comes up "Found New Hardware : USB Serial Controller" then something about USB to Serial then says its ready to use. Then nothing.......

WAIT!!!!!!!!!!

It has a flashing red light!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps its another GPS receiver?

EDIT : I just started GPS Gate & its receiving data. Odd but a good score nonetheless. I have 2 now I guess
