S&T 2008 difficulties

I finaly got S&T 2008 embeded in RR using a skin found here. It works just fine. Does everything a gps should. However, even with the skin buttons, I find that it is cumbersome to use. There are several things I would like to change and have the software do automaticly when I press the GPS button in RR.

1. I would like it to automaticly go to the gps pane.
2. I would like the dot/arrow to stay centered.
3. I would like it to orrient so that the top of the map is what lies ahead of me.

Is there any way of making these changes?

THere is an Autoit script around here somewhere for 2005 or 2006 and I think the keyboard shortcuts are the same for 08.

Well, Im having even more problems with this.

1. Is there a way to get directions from your current location to another location. When you start gps tracking, the gps finds your location. It should know where you are. When you go into the directions or guidance menu, is there a way for you to select your gps location as the starting point and then add your destination?

2. When selecting your destination for guidance, I tried clicking on one of the symbols on the screen for restaurants/landmarks/gas stations ect.. However, this doesn't add the address as the destination. Is there a way of doing this?

3. When trying to find areas of interest such as restaurants/landmarks/gas stations, you can select a distance from your point. Once I leave that point, no more icons show up on my map. Doesn't S&T keep adding them as you drive?

4. Is there a way to save address of locations that you have been to or want to go to? I tried pushpins, but that doesn't seem to work. I would like to add my address book somehow into S&T, or have it add my current gps location's address to a file. Then when I go to the driving directions menu, I would like to be able to quickly add my destination without grabbing a KB.

Maybe this is a stretch for this software. I'll keep searching for the answers to these questions and post them if I find anything out. If anyone knows any of these answers, please let me know. Thanks

I used the skin in post #2. I dont remember if it auto-did gps itself, or if I had another auto-it script to do that, but that post looks familiar and I even made posts in that thread, so I am guessing it is that one.

As for your other problems, sort of why I ditched Streets and Trips. In 2006, I still think it was the best. But then came 2007 and iGuidance came out with v4 and blew S&T away except for POI database. Now in 2008, Streets and Trips is exactly the same as 2006 except newer maps, Garmin Mobile is out and iGuidance 2009 is out which blows the others away now too!

1) I think that was in a skin somewhere, but it took coordinates from your GPS device directly, then put that as starting point in S&T manually as well as the ending point. Things may have changed a bit in 2 years, but I think you need another script or skin to do it.

2) Isnt there an add to route? There was a pane on the left hand side with the check box and all, and you could search there, and then a button that added it to the route.

3) No. You need to keep clicking it. Other programs like iG3/ig4/ig2009/garminM all do it automatically, again sort of stuck in 2006...

4) I think there is a home isnt there? I am not sure, I never even tried with 2006 then. I know iGudiance does it with favourites and a seperate home button.

I used the skin you mentioned http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/road...2006-skin.html, and that works great. For the Autoit script, I found something called S&T Keys. There is a write up on this, along with a link for downloading it @ http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/free-a...ets-trips.html. It's a tiny program but it works great. It was exactly what I needed. While playing with this, I discovered what more of the buttons do on the RR brushed metal skin. So, I think for now at least, I'm set. Thanks again for your help.

Key is completely unnecessary. Look at this post -- I got S&T to do pretty much what you're looking for with just RR scripting.

For examples of how I used the scripting, download the Shock-esque skin that I made last year. It includes both a Shock-type GPS skin, as well as the BMV-type GPS skin, and the ability to switch between them (because the BMV-type screen has better GPS controls but the music buttons are too small).
