China Branded Dual DIN 7" Head unit work with USB GPS?

I recently purchased a all in 1 China brand 7" touch screen head unit. I later found out the model of the unit is a Shenzhen Jeasun mode JE-275BT head unit.

Not a lot of information around regarding hacking this unit or any mods that can be done with it. It's got all the regular things you see like DVD, Divx, Mp3, WMA etc.. Also has a SD card slot and the thing that drew me toward this unit is the fact that it's also got a rear USB interface for playing mp3s etc.. What I want to know is there is a model up that has a GPS antenna plug on the back (That unit is an extra $100US or so on top of the price of this unit), can I somehow get this baby to work a USB GPS antenna from the USB port?

I believe it runs Windows CE possible 5 but more likely 4.x and I think there's a way I can get back to the desktop to run software such as I-Go and other CE based GPS software but I'm not sure if the USB will see a GPS antenna.. Anyone got any information or experience with this kind of thing? I would love to hack on my own start menu as well.. I know this isn't a car pc perse but it does run an OS and has USB interface like a pc.. Any help will be appreciated.. I would like to see if I can gather as much info on this as I can.

Hey, outside of the lack of built-in GPS, what are your impressions of the unit? I've been looking at these (I'll admit it - I'm cheap ) to get me by until I save up the jack to either buy a higher-end unit or build a carpc seutp.

Acceptable build quality for the price? Reasonable response and functionality? Acceptable sound? I know this isn't a high-end unit, but my current HU is acting up a little, and I've been toying with the idea of an inexpensive replacement.

Thanks,
-jk

Well I am going to get this unit installed this week.. I might even take a proper review video clip and put it up on Youtube.. I really don't see any proper user reviews of this unit but it's price was good. I bought it from US ebay and living in Australia I felt the pinch of the conversion rate but was still cheaper than anything touch screen I could buy here.. The build quality is better than I expected.. Buttons feel firm. I've got a IR steering wheel receiver that I'm going to program in to be used with this unit once I've got it setup. The thing that drew me to it was the number of features that it's got. It's got Radio, TV, Bluetooth for my phone, number of inputs and outputs including USB which is really good as I can jack in a memory stick or maybe a laptop portable hard drive and then browse many albums from that. Being that It's running Windows CE, I am hoping to hack the menus so is looks a bit better than it does now. I really didn't care too much about the extra GPS as I've already got a external unit for that.. I guess i'll post again after I get it installed with a better impression of how I like it.. I'll link to a video clip once I've had a play.

This is the same unit only different name badge..

I sincerely doubt it.

Understand that most of the members on these forums eschew units like this in favor of a full-on PC. You're unlikely to find much information on this model on these forums, although there may be more information available on other websites.

Understand that unknown products from China at bargain-basement prices are usually worth exactly what you pay for them.
I would expect this product to be of low build quility and made from cheap components, mostly plastic. This will cause problems witht he mechanicals, especially.
I would also expect the software and interface to have problems, causing much frustation and possibly even requring the unit to be reset or rebooted in order to function again.

I look at it this way. There are a lot of informational & review sites around that look at products like this. If this was a good quality unit that had an interface and feature set that was on par with the more expensive offerings from car audio behemoths like Alpine & Pioneer, we would have heard about it before this unit was ever publicly available.

Good luck with your purchase. I sincerely hope that you get a lot of value and long-term use form it.
Unfortunately, I don't believe you will be happy with your purchase due to the reasons I outlined above.

Just in case anybody else out there is considering it I bought the unit, installed it.. was a piece of crap and sent it back for a refund.. Got a Pioneer unit now and I'm much happier.. While you get what it says you get, the build quality is bad and cheap and the components have no shielding and you get all kinds of nasty hissing and AC hum on the speakers.. So don't do it..
