Microsoft MapPoint 2009 Europe, a good alternative for the dead MS AutoRoute

Microsoft is releasing its 2009 version of MapPoint with European maps. the last version of AutoRoute 2007 was released in the fall of 2006, and the map data is getting a bit dated. MapPoint may be a suitable alternative for some old AR users.

I downloaded my copy from MSDN downloads, but MP09EU should be appearing in stores soon, if it is not in stores already. I thing the original ETA was January 2009, but it may be in stores earlier.

I just posted my first impressions of MapPoint 2009 Europe. Perhaps my only disappointment is that no new countries were added to the European coverage, and to the functionality of the Find feature.

Is it touch-screen friendly? I think that the MS Autoroute was almost impossible to use at a 7" screen because of the too small signs/icons!

The new 2009 version has much larger menu buttons than earlier versions, but I wouldn't call this software "touchscreen friendly".

OK. Do you know if it is possible to use some kind of GUI for it?

I personally use it without any front end software, but others like to use MapPoint in Road Runner, and also perhaps in other frontends, too.

OK. Thanks for the info. Do you know if it can be embedded in Centrafuse?
