GPS needs 2-3 minutes to lock onto satellite

I have a satglobal Bu-353 gps receiver linked to garmin mobile pc software. As soon as i turn my gps receiver garmin starts showing two signals (out of five) but in this state the gps does not work and garmin says "searching for satellites".

It takes about 2-3 minutes for the gps to obtain a lock.

Can somebody help.

Thanks

You have tint? I know my car has tint that is somewhat metallic, so GPS doesnt work well inside pointing through the window. If you put it outside does it work? That would narrow it down to what the problem is.

2-3 minutes isn't really an issue, that's pretty normal for a BU-353.

Really? Is that software related? I use a 353 and iGuidance... puck in the front right corner of my F150 with clear sky view, and it gets signal fairly instantly.

Well substitute front right corner of F150 to rear left back of Civic.

The BU-353 has a built in battery to keep hold of satellite positions when off. So as long as it had a lock before it turned off, it should get a lock really fast the next time. Assuming you didnt move the puck without it being on, in which case it dumps what it thought it knew and tries to lock again from scratch.

Mine locks as soon as I get out of the garage.

I've been having trouble getting locks onto the birds with my bu-353. It often takes a good deal of time if it locks at all. However, I have it sitting on the front dash of my suburban, which is a near-vertical windshield. I will try putting it on the roof of the truck. These bu-353 pucks have a magnetic base and are weatherproof, aren't they? So I can put it on the roof permanently? Thanks for the help.
