GPSPlex - an Alternative to Xport

for those having trouble with their gps and xport (juding from the number of threads that turn up on an xport search, thats about all of us) a fellow member of this forum found this and it seems to work well-

GPSPlex- Original Spanish http://www.maicas.net/gpsplex/
GPSPlex- English Translation

it is in spanish. use google to translate the webpage, and its pretty self explanatory how to use the program. just have your gps installed on something other then port 7. this program takes your gps port and creates a virtual port at port 7, where as many programs as you want can all use the same port 7.

also, if you have been playing with xport, switching assignments to your gps port and everything, its probably a good idea to wipe all of your port settings clean in windows- it worked wonders for me= http://www.bisque.com/sc/forums/p/446/430.aspx i uninstalled my gps in device manger before i do this trick, but i dont unplug anything. just delete all the vales in that registry key and restart windows. your gps will auto install upon boot, and should be assigned to a clean working com3 or close to that.

NOD32 detects it as a virus too and instantly deletes it. The author says how to get around it, but you'd think he has an anti-virus and would change some code so it wouldn't get deleted when he does a build. I don't know. It is kind of strange.

Results of a scan from Jotti's Online Malware Scanner: http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/scanre...11111b0f6f67d2

Description of what is detected:
http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/w32_malware.shtml
In short, it could just be the way the files are packed, not really a virus/trojan.

Still not getting it.

I've been screwing with this BU-353 / serial to USB problem for months and I'm getting nowhere. I'm now ruining win7 and tried about every driver made and still can't get a com port assigned. Always get "failed to install USB device" whenever I try plugging in the GPS.

I trust the GPSPhlex will only work when the drivers are working, so that's going to continue to be a problem.

I must need a step by step description, because I'm just not getting it.

Without the GPS, all I have a nice, large, elaborate, MP3 player bolted in the car.

The build is pretty simple: Intel D945GCLF2 Mini-ITX w/ 1GB mem & Windows 7.

Thanks for any help.

drivers for the globalstat- http://www.usglobalsat.com/p-62-bu-353-w.aspx

if those dont work, try the top of this list- http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31

it should work in win7 without errors.

Been there, tried them. The last time I had this problem (over a year ago with XP) I seem to remember something about having to really purge the old drivers and settings before any others can be installed.

When I do an install using the drivers you mention below, they actually do force a removal before installing new ones, but it hasn't worked. I did find a site that discussed how to edit the registry that could solve the problem, but didn't. I thought there was a separate utility for zeroing out stubborn prior settings, but I might be thinking about a different problem. I'll uninstall everything and try again with this one. Thanks, and if something else comes to mind, to hesitate to post. I'm going to dog this out.

Did you ask google? I found a few sites that mention alternate drivers for Win7. I'm looking myself. Here's a possible one. http://www.bhall.com/2009/04/prolifi...ter-cable.html

You should only need to uninstall the Prolific drivers from Add/Remove Programs. If there's still an association it would be in C:\WINDOW\INF in one of the oem##.inf files. Don't delete any, just open each one (or search within files) and look for "SER2PL.INF (for Windows 2000)" at the top. The file has to be emptied (open in notepad delete all text and save) and the associated .PNF needs to be deleted. You probably won't need to do that though.

Indeed, it is. The author is aware of the fake detection, but I ignore if he's going to do something about it. I've been using the software for 1 month now and it works flawlessly.

GPSPlex -or any other software that wants to access the GPS- NEEDS your GPS adapter to be working prior to be able to redirect the port to the virtual COM7 port. If you have driver problems you'll have to sort that out first.

Some programas might not detect the virtual COM7. In Centrafuse you have to edit the config manually to set the port to 7 because it doesn't show in the droplist, but that's easy enough.
If your GPS is working ok, but the virtual port doesn't show in the program you want to use, check the config files and see if you can configure port 7 manually.
