Navman Reciever w/ Delorme Street Atlas 2003?

My first attempt at navigation I bought Navman receiver on sale sale it. As you may know it came with Rand McNally Map software. I was upset when i found that it could not do any routing without the internet, so i then bough Street Atlas 2003. Generally I am pleased with the software but theres a delay in my actual position to whats being reported on the screen. The delay is so bad I can be to my destination and the software telling me i just made my first turn which was 20 minutes ago.

Has anyone else experienced this in there setup? Or is it just Navman reciever and Street Atlas specific? Is there a setting in street atlas that i maybe over looking that will display my position in real time? Would the new delorme reciever fix this problem? Help Me Please because this is nerve recking!?!

Have you follow this forum before buying your stuff?? I dont think you did. If you want something that works with no hassle, get Copilot2003 GPS receiver/software combo. It is by far the best PC GPS setup around for th US users. So far there're 4 minor complaints people have with it. inability to change the robotic voice, very few GPS receiver works with it, no SDK, sometimes it takes forever to get a lock.
SDK, no big deal unless you're a programmer and want to do custom software. The only other receiver that works with Copilot is Rand Mcnally GPS receiver. You can change from a male speaker to a female speaker but both are robotic. Copilot receiver and Rand Mcnally receiver require a clear view to the sky otherwise it wont lock to all 12 satallites. You'll get the yellow status instead of the green status. It is expensive at $400 a pop but look at it this way, you have already spent about 150 and you're still not happy with it.

I greatly appreciate the response but not really what I was lookin for. I discovered this portion of the site as I began my project, so I have been following along simultaneously. I have searched for tons of reviews and have come to the conclusion the Copilot has by far pleased the most users, but its also by far the most expensive. I considered buying copilot but at the time I had just spent $500 for my monitor and could not do it again (drop another lump sum) for the software. I bought navman out of a rushed decision (personal deadline) and tried to make up for it with Street Atlas. Out of all my research I did not hear any negative opinions on the delorme product (like with MS streets and trips and their 15 minute sampling rate).

I am a firm believer in doing it right the first time (and copilot seems to be the right decision) but you can go broke if you dont draw the line somewhere. I carefully chose all of my hdw and allowed the gps to fall by the weigh side. And I'm paying for it but i am willing to gamble again and try the new receiver from delorme, assuming i dont hear any negative reviews. Until then I figured Ill share my experience and ask a few questions and see if I could get some answers to my specific problem.

I bought an Earthmate GPS with SA 2003 from DeLorme and I'm very happy with it. Hasn't given me any troubles at all and it's very accurate and I also love the voice command/guidance. I think SA 2003 is accurate if used in conjunction with their GPS receiver.

I also have Street Atlas 2K3. Its navigational ability is somewhat limited. Heres a couple examples: If you miss a turn, it doesnt notify you at all and if it does it kept saying "off route...off route... off route" Sometimes I just wanna somehow grab the ***** ( I set my speaker to Mary) by her shoulder and yell I KNOW, GET ME BACK ON ROUTE YOU WORTHLESS PIECE OF CRAP. Second, if you miss a turn and click on "back on track" (SA2K3's version of reroute), it just tells you to make a U turn. Don't get me wrong, I love SA2K3. I use it all the time to see where I'm at on the map. I dont use it for step by step nag at all. It's too hard to use while driving. SA2k3 requires VGA screen at 800X600 or else you cant see the words.
The only software designed for in car navigation while driving by yourself is Copilot. Once you setup the destination, you can turn off the monitor and it'll still get you there. I did it just to see if it's possible.

SA2K3 does display your position in real time. It updates the position every second. You might want to check the auto rotate and auto re-center. If you're going to get a different receiver, why not Rand Mcnally? It'll work with any NEMA compatible software. Best part is it also works Copilot software. Is your Navman USB or serial?? I read somewhere that Navman might work with Copilot. But its not comfirmed. You can find copilot software on ebay for around $100. PM me if you have trouble locating copilot software.

I had a chance to play with Acura RL3.5's touch screen nav. I must say that it's one of the best nav out there. If the RL's nav is a perfect 10, copilot would be about 8 and SA2K3 would be a 3 maybe 4.

iGuidance: I recently purchased this software and really like it. No robotic voice, recalculates the route quickly, uses Navtech maps and less expensive than copilot. It comes with a pc and a pocketpc version. I am currently using it on a dell laptop with a garmin emap connected to the serial port. Not as many features as street atlas, but fast door to door routing by address, intersection, database of poi's, and looks to be a touchscreen friendly interface. (That's my next purchase.)

I also have the Navman and Street Atlas 2003. I'm also experiencing the same delay. I was really hoping it was because my laptop is only a Pentium 233... guess I was wrong. I definitely won't be paying for Copilot, way too expensive. Street Atlas will get the job done if I can get the proper GPS. Maybe a patch or new drivers will fix it.
