Might be of Use to any UK members sick of Speed Cameras.

The PocketGPS guys have started a UK Speed/Safety camera DB that works in a similar way to the Snooper S6 Neo, in that it keeps a DB of the Camera Locations in a fixed DB, and uses GPS to warn when you are close.
Instructions, and the DB files are here. You may have some luck with it. I'm going to try it with Mappoint, they have a down load of an .OV2 file overlay, but mention an Ascii file version too. Can't find that to Download, so I have mailed them about what format Mappoint/Autoroute would require, and where to get the ASCII one.

And there is a forum thread that is readable without membership Here.

This looks to be fun.

Thats where I think this DB might be useful. I know by definition of mobile, they can and do move, but it does give previous locations of mobile units, and lets face it, they may hide, but they don't have the imagination to actually move very far.

Also found this there as well...

"Q. Can AutoRoute use the UK GATSO Database ?

A. Yes

Q. Can Pocket Streets use the UK GATSO Database ?

A. Not directly, although you could import them as pushpins, save your maps to Pocket Streets and use Push Pins."

it is an OV2 file (overlay file).

They have a bit an FAQ there about it. Apparentley it is also available in ASCII format.

They don't say which, but also Apparentley Autoroute (so I imagine Mappoint which I'm using) can use the database, but they don't say whether it is the OV2, or the ASCII version.

I'm planning to try it tonight.

OK, I've have it imported.

The .OV2 file doesn't import as data.
But on their forums under the link to the thread I posted, someone has kindly posted a link to POIedit.

Down load and install that, import the OV2 file, and save it as a .ASC.

Autoroute, and Mappoint can import .ASC files as comma seperated txt.

It appears though when Mappoint imports it, it reverses the columns that the OV2 has, so in the OV2 in POIedit, you get Camera number, Latitude, Longitude.

When you data Import, you get the three columns which you have to set, they are ordered Longitude, latitude, Camera (I chose Data type other) (I think, at Different PC right now).

Then choose a Pushpin rather than other type entry, and pick a symbol for it. I chose a nice red warning triangle.

Bigo, I see cameras. Although it looks like one or two either new, or proposed ones local to me are missing.

looks like I will have to investigate how to add to the DB, and export out the new entries for submission.

The most important thing about these is can you have it warn you when you're approaching one, no good just watching the screen all the time.

I know mappoint can't without writing your own code (tried it), does anyone know if Destinator for the PC can?

just starting out on this incar pc thing so not much knowledge

What is the best navigation software to use? It would be a bonus if it was fairly cheap as well!! Not thought about speed cameras but it sounds like a fantastic idea to have warnings of the little buggers!

Cheers for any info

Heheheh slightly OT, but in my area Cops are known to park police cars on the side of the road with dummies (as in manequins, not actual police dummies) in the front seat, on the basis that when people see these cars they just automatically slow down.

downloaded that file, and converted to .asc (at http://mutilator.nemesisforce.com/sc if u want it) and loaded it to mappoint, just wondered if anyone knows of a way to add these as POI, so that they would load every time you load mappoint.

Mine does load as POI's everytime I run it now. I brought them in with the data import function, and chose points of interest as the type when I got to that stage.
